Recently I had the opportunity to remix the new single by the amazing Billie Ray Martin, whom I admire since I saw her perform with her Berlin bands “Billie & The Deep” and “Idiot Cards” back in the late 80s. She left Berlin for London, to sing and perform with S’Express and Electribe 101 and is truely one of the few true divas of electronic music.
Now she is again a confessing Schöneberger and I am more than happy to finally collaborate with her by remixing her superb cover version of David Bowie’s song “After All” (yet another part-time Schôneberger during the 80s).
She played that song to me while we were having our occasional chit-chat in one of those nice cafés around Goltzstrasse. She has been recording the original during her “Soul Sessions” in London lately and the opportunity to touch both her voice AND a song by David Bowie just appealed to me.
I did a full vocal remix version (since only a dork would not embrace BRM’s vocals) and a dub version, which focuses on the line “live to your rebirth and do what you will” which corresponds with my current contemplation about birth, death and the time spend in between.

Billie Ray Martin - After All (Mijk van Dijk Remixes)

These are tracks of my forthcoming Bleibtreu EP on friendly BluFin Records from Cologne, produced together with my friend Rummy Sharma from India.
All tracks have been produced in New Delhi and Berlin, either physically sitting in the same studio or swapping files across the web.
I arrived from my gig at WIRE13 for an overstop in New Delhi to hang out with Rummy for a couple of days, play a gig and produce some music. It was my very first time in India and it was nothing less than amazing. The sights, the smells, the food, the people: never had I seen a country with so many contrasts between the rich and the poor. It was great to have my friend Rummy at my side to show me those things, that a simple tourists would never encounter. After long days, we would enter the studio and work all night on our music. A perfect opportunity to channel my impressions.
We layed the first beats and bass for Impact after we returned from a party with Darren Emerson in New Delhi to Rummy’s studio. Later, we would send Ableton files back and forth from India and Germany to finetune the track. When we send it to BluFin Records, label boss Andrea loved it and asked for more tracks.
The title track Bleibtreu has been started in New Delhi as well after a long day of sightseeing.
In this video you can actually see us walking over to Rummy’s studio in the district of Vasant Kunj.
We were working on this tune more than on the other two and finally finished it in Berlin.
The track is called Bleibtreu (“Stay true”) because we did stick with this tune as long as it took, because Rummy loves Berlin so much and last but not least because Rummy’s brother Ranjan runs a travel agency in Bleibtreustrasse in Berlin. If you ever wanna go to India, make sure to book your journey at Travel Design.
And finally Restless. A perfect mashup of both our ideas. We did a lot of road-testing of the tracks in our gigs. Here’s an example of my gig at New Healing festival, where I dropped all 3 tracks of the EP in a row. While all 3 tracks created amazing crowd reactions, Restless became the secret hit in both of our sets, so we decided to get a video done.

Release date is October 10th, one day before my birthday. What a nice present! 

Mijk van Dijk & Rummy Sharma - Bleibtreu EP - BluFin

I have been in contact with Manuel Mind from Switzerland for a long time. He was one of the earliest supporters of that new sound called “Trance”, back in the early 90s, when I did my first recordings a Microglobe and Mindgear on MFS Records from Berlin and when Cosmic Baby and me compiled and produced “Tranceformed From Beyond”, the very first compilation exploring that new and exciting sound in a mixed format. When he asked me to contribute my Mindgear track “Don’t Panic” to his compilation “Sonic Trance”, I was so thrilled to receive a request from abroad, that I produced a special remix of that track called “Don’t Panic (Transpanic Mix)“, that has never been re-released on any other format so far.
We met for the first time at the end of 1995 on a rave in Zürich. Trance had already become a formula back then I was looking for deeper ways to express myself in music. He was playing on the Drum & Bass floor and I was a bit puzzled at first, since I could not really connect that sound with him. However, when he played “Timeless” by Goldie and other songs, I don’t recall anymore, music that consisted of deep basslines and emotional pads, I understood that his love for these musical elements made him embrace Drum & Bass, as a logical progression from the Trance sound of the early 90s.
We got in contact once again in the 10s, inevitably through the social networks. He noticed that I rediscovered Funk, the sound that made me turn to electronic music and drum machines in the first place. And I was stunned, that he also produced a similiar sound. I featured his tunes on my NuFunk show “Motherfunk” on BLN.fm and he asked me for a remix for his new tune “Strange Sounds”. So here once again a circle closes after 20 years.
At first I wanted to have this remix released as a mijkfunk Remix, but I don’t want to make these separations anymore. It was good to separate my first excursions into the realm of NuFunk and FutureBoogie under a new project name, but in 2013 it just makes sense to me to merge all the influences that I gathered over 2 decades into a Mijk van Dijk sound, may it be boogie infused or harmony infected.
So I’m really happy to present to you my “Mijk van Dijk Boogie Remix” of Manuel Mind & Valentino Tomasi’s  ”Strange Sounds” on Le Bal Records from Zürich/ Switzerland, with remixes by Foremost Poets, DJ Slugo and Mijk van Dijk.

I know Izabela & Silvio Hrabar already for many years. Me and Silvio (who was known as DJ dB back then) already played together on my first tour to Croatia in July 1999. Since then I played quite often in and around their beautiful hometown Trogir (close to Split). When they launched their first own label Family Grooves earlier in 2013, I was more than interested to hear their eclectic mix of House, Techno and even Tech Funk. Izabela & Silvio in reverse had already followed my passion for Boogie and so when they send me the demo of their new act Time4Tale, I couldn't resist but remix this lovely gem.
I am superhappy with my remix and I hope you guys like it too. ;-)

After releases on Force Inc Music Works and djungle fever Mijk van Dijk finally returns to his own imprint microglobe musikproduktion with 3 strong techno tracks. In the title track he is combining beats for your body with messages for your mind, just like on the first microglobe release “Peace 4 All”. For those who prefer it pure, the vocals from “Thinking 4 U” have been “Muted 4 U” in the track bearing that name. And with the track “Created By The Bass” Mijk has already torn down walls and ceilings in clubs during extensive test play. We hope these joints will have been rebuild properly by the time the corona virus lockdown is over so they can withstand the power of this EP when you are finally in charge to do damage on the dance floor yourself again. "Denn es ist wie es ist" was the first song I released o BluFin Records, a fine label from Cologne. Always loved it although some of the production sounded dated after all these years.
So when label head honchess Andrea asked me for an exclusive track for her 10 Years anniversary compilation, it was an obvious choice to do a rework of "Denn es ist wie es ist".

microglobe is Mijk van Dijk’s new label for his very personal vision of Techno and House.
Since his first record release in 1990 he has been a mainstay of the Berlin Techno scene. Between 1992 and 1995 he released several EPs as "microglobe" and also his first album "Afreuropamericasiustralia". Now Mijk returns to his "microglobe" as a personal label after a long journey through the infinite vastness of electronic dance music.
On the  title track Mijk takes a stand on social and political issues in his very own way in the tradition of classic Chicago Deep House and his two „Think & Dance EP“s from 1994, "Peace 4 All" is about the simple truth that everyone has the right to live in peace. The track is released as a vocal version, instrumental and acapella.
The second original track "The Floating World" takes Mijk’s trademark sounds from classics like "All Our Colors" (MFS Records, 1994) and "Motherwomb" (Frisbee Tracks, 2007) on a whole new level and has been road-tested in his DJ sets already with great success. The track title is inspired by Mijk’s love for Japanese culture and the art of Ukiyo-e. 
Mijk van Dijk will release a new EP on microglobe every 6 to 8 weeks.
His next artist album is planned for the end of 2019.

This is a remix that I did for Little Nobody & Dj Fodder from Australia, out on Hypnotic Room Special 002, digital only. I used the original bassline, which reminded me of old Bobby Konders/ Marshall Jefferson-Basslines and the sample, which is of course reminiscent of Phuture. So it had to be some kind of old schoolish mix, that I like a lot. How about you guys?
