An ambience I created for a personal tabletop RPG.

This abandoned missile silo was one of the ultimate goals of the players when discovering the source of a worldwide fungus infection. I wanted to convey a sense of something big stirring in the depths.

Exercise in recording, mixing and editing.

Abandoned Military Missile Silo Ambience

This was recorded in late October, in the hour before dawn, on the Luangwa River in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.  The first part of the recording features the undulating liquid call of White-browed Coucal. Noisy Egyptian Geese, White-crowned Lapwing and Hadeda Ibis are heard throughout, as is the splashing of Hippopotamus in the river. The track ends with a loud exchange of Hippopotamus grunts.

The rig was set on the edge of the pink canyon. And while setting up we were surprised by a thunderstorm. This is later in the recording, when you can hear the thunderstorm quietly (well, not that quietly) fading away into the distance, rolling its last thunders over the Pink Canyon

This is the song of the Uralba population of Alberts Lyrebirds. It is different and distinct from the songs of Alberts Lyrebirds from other regions. This is a population which has been isolated by habitat clearing for 120 years. At last count/survey there was a single male calling. This song is sadly likely to disappear forever when this (quite possibly) lone bird dies.
