"Pistol Packin' Mama" is a 1943 song with the words composed by Al Dexter, who adapted the melody from Boil Them Cabbage Down. [1] The song is notable in that it was the first number one on the Juke Box Folk Records chart, which was later known as the Hot Country Songs chart. The version performed by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters[2] was the first number on the Juke Box Folk records charts followed by the original version (recorded March 18, 1942) performed by Al Dexter[3] released on Okeh 6708.[1] The B-side of the Al Dexter version of "Pistol Packin' Mama, a song entitled "Rosalita", would hit number one on the same chart later in the year. The song is also featured in the video game Fallout 4 on the in-game radio.
It is also continually referenced in Spike Milligan's "Goodbye Soldier", which is part of his memoirs of the war and just after it. In it he states that as Mussolini did not like Jazz, after he was defeated the Italians were getting into Jazz, and as this song was popular at the time this was one of the songs Milligan and his group was often asked to sing, he also states that this is one of the main songs sung by Italian Jazz Bands (in fact he states that some bands only ever sung this song)

Director Michael Mann initially asked Trevor Jones to provide an electronic score for the film, but late in the game, it was decided an orchestral score would be more appropriate for this historic epic. Jones hurried to re-fashion the score for orchestra in the limited time left, while the constant re-cutting of the film meant music cues sometimes had to be rewritten several times to keep up with the new timings.

Finally, with the release date looming, composer Randy Edelman was called-in to score some minor scenes which Jones did not have time to do. Jones and Edelman received co-credit on the film (thus making the score ineligible for Oscar consideration).

The main theme of the movie is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean on his 1990 album The Search.

His critically acclaimed recordings and performances have earned him a respected name within the regional industry and a fan base of discriminating listeners throughout the U.S and Canada.

Educated at the Western Conservatory of Music in Ontario, Canada, Mike Mitchell began playing the violin at the age of five. His passion for music led him to a string performance major at Youngstown State University, and more than 10 years of national touring with rock and acoustic ensembles.

Currently Mike is performing with his own Americana band and performing locally in SWVA with his Jazz Trio and solo performances which are singer/songwriter based.
