I done this tribute mix to celebrate the life and music of my friend, Jason Kaye. Jason's musical selection and the way he played it, not to mention his own productions, have been a huge inspiration on me since the first time I heard Top Buzz perform at X-Static in Bristol in 1991. 

Big Love going out to my man Mad P and all of Jasons family and friends in this sad time. Its not everyday we lose a legend. 

I hope you all enjoy the mix as much as i have enjoyed doing it... I must say a massive thank you to Darkus and Fav, (who are both, pretty much authorities on the music of Top Buzz) for helping me with the tracklist... 

I actually ended up with a folder with about 100 tunes in and had to whittle it down to the tracks below. There is so many other tunes i wanted to include but couldn't as the mix is already 2 and a half hours...

Tribute mix celebrating Pete Rock & CL Smooth's masterpiece 'The Main Ingredient', which turned 30 recently.
'Mecca & The Soul Brother' is the more iconic/important album, but Main Ingredient slowly became my favorite over the years.....for a lot of the same reasons I lean to ATCQ's Midnight Marauders over Low End Theory.
Pete's production went from a harder/dusty sound on MATSB, to a warm/melodic vibe on TMI.  The samples Pete chose hit your soul in that sweet spot:  from Cannonball Adderley on 'In The House', to George Benson on 'I Get Physical' + 'In The Flesh', to Roy Ayers on 'Searching'....masterful.  Pair that with CL's smooth voice & flow, and your soul starts to vibrate....

When @evboogie from @upnorthtrips proposed the idea for a mix celebrating the 20th anniversary of Ironman, we couldn't resist, considering that Ghostface might be our favorite rapper ever. 

Since Ironman was the last of six Wu-Tang albums produced entirely by Rza, we widened the scope of the mix in order to pay homage to his legendary run in that classic Wu-Tang era.

James Brown for me is the biggest influence in my career!
The first record I ever owned was A James Brown 7”  on People Records "Breakin Bread".

I started collecting all things James Brown related and simply became obsessed with the JB groove. He really was an incredible character but unfortunately passed away in 2006 on Christmas Day, so I felt this was the perfect time to pay tribute to the Godfather of Soul & Funk. This mix encompasses a mixture of James Brown and his Funky People: Fred Wesley, Marva Whitney, Lyn Collins, Hank Ballard, Maceo Parker, The JB’s and more. Without doubt the hardest working man in show business, he toured the world constantly with his band and dancers, performed to millions bringing the Funk to the masses. Who would think back in the 60’s & 70’s that his music would be sampled and be the backbone of Hip Hop,music. The influence his music has had on so many peoples lives is extraordinary and without James Brown and his Funky people I don’t think Hip Hop and even Dance music would be the same. Thank you James RIP the original Funk Soul Brother!
