King Of Dunmail Raise - From forthcoming album Circlet of Gold. miketurnbullmusic.com

Just above Grasmere in the Lake District, on the way towards Thirlmere (Dunmail Raise) there is hillside dominated by the rock formation which resembles a Lion looking down onto a Lamb.  A cairn exists which is reported to be the resting place of the last King of Cumbria - King Dunmail.  
In 945  Dunmail & his warriors clashed here with the Saxon King Athelstan & The Scots. 
King Dunmail was killed but his warriors didn’t want his crown to get into the hands of the Saxons.  It was said be possessed by the magical property of legitimising the kingship of the wearer.  The warriors threw it into Grizedale tarn at Dunmail’s request.  He told his men that one day, when Cumbria needed him, he would return for his crown.  
It is said that King Dunmail will rise again if the crown is raised and placed on the cairn - but only when it’s time.  Every year, the spirits of his warriors retrieve the circlet of gold and go to Dunmail Raise to ask their king if he is ready to take the crown again, but each year. The King is reported to whisper ’not yet, not yet, wait awhile, my warriors’.  On the return journey from Thirlmere to Grasmere, if you look right, up towards the hill side, this rock formation takes on the appearance of a lady playing a piano.
