Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the 1970s from the United States’ urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Well-known disco artists include Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Bee Gees, Chic, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge, The Trammps, the Village People and Michael Jackson. While performers and singers garnered public attention, record producers working behind the scenes played an important role in developing the genre. Films such as Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Thank God It's Friday (1978) contributed to disco's mainstream popularity.

Disco started as a mixture of music from venues popular with African Americans, Hispanic and Latino Americans, Italian Americans, and LGBT people in Philadelphia and New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Disco can be seen as a reaction by the 1960's counterculture to both the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music at the time. Several dance styles were developed during the period of disco's popularity in the United States, including “the Bump” and “the Hustle”.

By the late 1970s, most major U.S. cities had thriving disco club scenes, and DJs would mix dance records at clubs such as Studio 54 in New York City, a venue popular among celebrities. Discothèque-goers often wore expensive, extravagant and sexy fashions. There was also a thriving drug subculture in the disco scene, particularly for drugs that would enhance the experience of dancing to the loud music and the flashing lights, such as cocaine and Quaaludes, the latter being so common in disco subculture that they were nicknamed "disco biscuits". Disco clubs were also associated with promiscuity as a reflection of the sexual revolution of this era in popular history.

Disco was the last popular music movement driven by the baby boom generation. It declined as a major trend in popular music during the late 1970s. However, it was a key influence in the development of electronic dance music, house music, hip-hop, new wave and post-disco. While no new disco movement has dominated popular music since its decline, the style has had several revivals and the influence of disco remains strong across American and European pop music.

Bombstrikes welcomes Mr.Doris & D-Funk for their debut single: 'All Down' featuring N'fa Jones and Cantaloop. Whilst they may be new for the label, they are certainly not new to the scene. This one has real international flavour to it with the four collaborators hailing from Ibiza, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. When not touring the globe as resident for huge events such as Glitterbox, Space and Pacha, Mr. Doris can be found on the beautiful white Isle of Ibiza, where his fusion sound of funk, soul, hip hop and house has seen him produce with legends such as Nightmares on Wax and Groove Armada. D-Funk resides in Sydney where he has a long established a global reputation as a legendary purveyor of all things beats, breaks and funk over multiple tours and 100 plus releases. That pedigree is definitely on show with this release. First up, the original mix of 'All Down' fuses broken beats with deep bass dives, organ riffs and funk guitar licks which is all brought together by the outstanding vocals of N'fa Jones and Cantaloop. 'On the flip', Aldo Vanucci, most notable as Plymouth's 14th best DJ, does what he does best and funks out the groove with infectious horn hooks and delivers a head nodding master of a remix. Once again showing why he counts the likes of Fatboy Slim amongst his biggest fans. Based on this debut, the combination of Mr. Doris & D-funk with Bombstrikes sounds like it could be a perfect match!
