This one doesn't have much variety ... (3/2)^5 ~= 2^3, so the comma is 2^8/3^5 = 256/243, is that right?  Which only gives us 5-EDO, and I think this is the factor that limits the variety achievable.  We have to divide the generator (the stretched fifth C-G) into (a fairly arbitrary-seeming) three equal parts, to get 15-EDO as three chains of 5 stretched fifths.  Maybe it's the artifice of dividing 5-EDO's generator into n equal parts that makes every 5n-EDO I've ever heard sound rather contrived .. to me, that is.  Though some of these 5n-EDOs must give better minor and major thirds?

This started as a simple 2 chord sketch on acoustic guitar, recorded back in 2012. I was thinking of using it for the first world of the game, and had called it "Autumn" along those lines. After revisiting it, I thought it might work better for the water world, in which I wanted a chill, laid back vibe. Also, Ian had already done music for the autumn level, and while I think he intended to have me replace all of his work, I was pretty fond of it and inspired by it, so I was more than happy to leave his work in. This production all came together only a few days before the game was released. I spent a good bit of time exploring other ideas for the ocean world, but many did not pan out. I tried mapping notes to the geography of levels, and some pretty weird and interesting phasing ideas, which felt too chaotic. Those tunes actually ended up in the last level of the game.

Swimming

This is a chord progression in Blackwood temperament, tuned to 15-equal. In this system, the circle of fifths is truncated at 5 steps, meaning that for C-G-D-A-E-B all of the fifths are a little bit sharp so that the B on top ends up being another C again. This means, by definition, that the E on top is more like an F.

Since this chain by itself doesn't really give us a usable major or minor third, we have to add them manually and in a way that's not accessible by the base circle of fifths that proceeds from the root. This chord progression exploits this property.
