Elusion of time

Recorded in Lake Sonoma 6/18/2021 at a special intimate rave camp gathering to celebrate a good friend’s birthday. After a day of record heat in which everyone was struggling not to overheat all day it was time to get a groove on. Keeping the vibes chilled while still warming up the dancefloor was the agenda after a long day of commuting, hauling, and setting up camp wrapped up. Keeping the tempo low while raising the dancefloor intensity was the good way to kickstart this very memorable time amongst good friends that really had been looking for a release from the Covid based times we are having.

Backpedaling

During these times I've had more time to reflect. It made me curious as to why some memories were more vivid than others....

It is strong emotional content that makes a memory robust. It is stress that alters the way that our brain processes information, changing from a flexible, holistic approach to more rigid stimulus–response associations. This can change the nature of the memory stored, as well as what we recall under stress.

The more a neural pathway is activated, the stronger the synaptic connections along the way become. Components of your experiences would have activated various parts of your neocortex. But the episode itself would initially be stored in the hippocampus. Over time each memory is consolidated, with its long-term storage thought to be distributed in different parts of the neocortex.
