This song explores frustration with a lack of meaningful progress despite one's best efforts. But it manages an almost-optimistic feel to it somehow through all of that.  It's also the ninth track on my new solo album, Blue Skies Black.  

Why is it called "Florida"?  The music for it was written at my great aunt and uncle's house in Florida, many years ago.

Florida

This song is, again, about focusing on and not losing track of your goals, but at the same time, being concerned with what you would do if you ever actually reached them, while not losing yourself in the process.  It's also the tenth track on my new solo album, Blue Skies Black.

I had the idea for the horn part in my head when I began working on this song.  I tried it out on guitar, but it wasn't quite right.  Thankfully, the mighty Bill Scholl was able to bring those parts to life for me.

About Time is a song about the struggle to find happiness and fulfillment in life. It’s a 90s-inspired alternative/grunge rock song with a dynamic range of sounds and emotion.

This is my first solo release in years, and I’m really proud of how it turned out. 

There were early versions of this song kicking around when The Velmas were working on our album "Station", but we never did record it. So, I finally did it myself. I enlisted some help from my friends Ricky Little on drums and Jason Maloney on mandolin, who added some awesome touches to the song.
