Downhill Slide is a song about a hangover's despair. Trying to clear your mind, but the anxiety sets in, grabs a hold and it feels like an existential dread. The song started out that way, and it also evolved into trying to remain positive, when everything around you seems to be trying to make you into something else.

This song is about the time after a breakup. The time you should have been healing and working on yourself. One day you turn around one day and realize - damn. I just wasted three years of MY time, after it was over. A thousand days puts that into perspective - it's time to move on. Time is too precious.
