The story behind the new Jesus & Hank song:

A few years back during a rehearsal break, my lead guitarist at the time mentioned he had an idea for a song.  He said "In the house where I grew up, over the couch in the living room there was a velvet picture of Jesus on one side and a velvet picture of Hank Williams on the other. In between was a deer head and a couple of fish. I always felt that I grew up somewhere between Jesus and Hank. I always thought that would be a good song title, but I'm not a songwriter so why don't y'all write it".

The next weekend, before I could write a word, Mike Robertson, who wrote "Merle Haggard, Jack Daniels and Me" on my previous album....and his daughter Tia had completed the song. A couple of weeks later in the studio, Mike R. played it on an acoustic guitar for my producer David Leonard. Keep in mind that David has a keen ear and is not easy to impress. He sat there with his back to us at the console while Mike played the song. David turned around and had a tear in his eye. He looked at me and said "You've GOT to record this song"

During the recording sessions, we brought in the incredible talents of Tommy Dodd on pedal steel, Marla Feeney on fiddle and Oak Ridge Boys drummer David Northrup. David Leonard layed down bass and piano tracks with a special emphasis on Floyd Cramer-type piano licks in certain parts of the song.

......so, that's how it came to be
