The idiosyncratic musical style and production practices by Sheldon, Sidney Thompson (aka Sid Le Rock) are shaped by the DIY electronic-music movement that has encouraged his creativity to develop and thrive since the late ’90s. This is a contributing factor to his impressive discography that currently stands at twelve albums under his various aliases, including Sid’s collaborations with artists from various fields and musical genres such as Depeche Mode, DJ Koze, Placebo, and persistent impressions of the journeys he has made throughout the world as a result of his live music performances.

His abounding talent and prolificacy hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Sid has regularly released on labels like Beachcoma, My Favourite Robot, Kompakt, Mute Records and Hafendisko. Likewise, the Toronto-born artist has been remixed by the likes of DJ Koze, Acid Pauli and Gui Boratto, while remixing Depeche Mode, Placebo, Gui Boratto, Fairmont, further underpinning his underground credibility. However, despite his solid studio credentials, he has never sought fame or attention, instead remaining devoted to his craft, an ethos that is fully manifested in his productions.

Ninja Tune's Counter imprint meets Modeselektor's Monkeytown to release RY X and Frank Wiedemann aka Âme, remixed by Matt “Radio Slave” Edwards and Thomas “Cagedbaby” Gandey (the latter two also now known as Matom for their more Kosmische output), on an 11 minute deep'n'meaningful dark-club epic? It's such a big-name pile-up, it was always going to either be lowest common denominator or highest common factor; thankfully, though, it really has given us the best from all involved. This is one of those magic tunes where you keep thinking nothing's happening, then suddenly you realise it's risen up around you to become all-enveloping, and before you know it you're compelled to take it from the top... and not just once either. This needs a health warning, it's so addictive.
