The Train Crash

Official submission to the 2020-2021 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards.
JUDGING FEEDBACK:

STRENGTHS: The judges thought that your score showed a sophisticated understanding of the subtle aspects of the film and successfully captured hits that underscored the emotions and thoughts. The dance sequence was imaginative without being sleazy, and the segue into the chorus line tempo was perfect. They also thought that your capturing of the first feather worked well, and your score showed a very comprehensive understanding of style and orchestration.

CRITIQUE: The judges noted that two prominent themes are heard throughout, and that they were perhaps a bit too evocative of other prominent themes (such as Henry Mancini's theme from Charade). They also advised you to think less about writing a piece that holds together well, from beginning to end, and not be afraid to stop one idea and start something very different as the visual and story may suggest. Remember, the visual is the thread, not the music. Music adds another dimension but is not the story in and of itself.
