Eighteen films released over the past decade have built up to this movie event,  Avengers: Infinity War.  Backed by the full might of the Disney machine, Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios commissioned two brothers named Russo & a star studded cast to portray all our favorite characters in one EPIC movie event.  The scope and ambition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a landmark achievement in serial storytelling, and you deserve one massive series of podcasts to celebrate it.  We’re Mike, Mike, and Oscar!  And this is MCU Part 7, our Avengers: Infinity War Review.

If you couldn’t tell by now, we’re big fans, literally and figuratively.  There’s a whole lotta movie to digest, and sitting by our microphones, we’re a whole lotta Man to digest them.  The result?  We had a ton of fun chatting about the entire MCU and this film in particular.  Don’t miss this episode.

Lots of breaking news this week - we just covered the Golden Globe Nominations, and now we break down the sizeable new Avengers: End Game & Captain Marvel trailers for you. We’ve been chronicling the Captain Marvel marketing for awhile now, this being our third preview after our commentaries on the San Diego Comic Con & CM Trailer 1. We also reviewed the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe from a two part Oscars Sprint Profile on Black Panther, a full series on the entire MCU where we reviewed 3 films per episode, movie event reviews of Avengers: Infinity War & Ant-Man and the Wasp, and a fun Marvel re-rank. So we love to love this superhero mega-franchise & cinematic universe and pay the films & trailers their rightful due.

And we thankfully have a lot to digest and comment upon with these two new Avengers and Captain Marvel previews.  Of course, we have to go full spoilers after Infinity War, there’s a ton of cool stuff to theorize about here, and the Mikes do not hold back. The production values remain a highlight for us, and we gush over how awesome everything looks.  But we do have many questions.

What a week it was for us at Mike, Mike, & Oscar. We had another MMO Interview, this one with Schmoedown Star Wars expert & champion Ken Napzok. Our first guest host joined us when we reviewed the new Pet Sematary with Ryan L. Terry. We also launched our Pixar series re-watch with our Toy Story episode, giving you the origin story of the company, breaking down the first rule of 22 in Pixar’s Rules of Storytelling, and all the heartbreaks & happiness we experienced along the way. These series will continue in the weeks to come with more guest hosts coming to our show, more MMO Interviews, and plenty more Pixar.

We also had a tremendous week of Hollywood, Hollyweird, and Wrestlemania infused craziness to react to with the week that was. New trailers for Joker, Avengers: End Game, JT Leroy, Annabelle Comes Home, & The Dead Don’t Die dropped on our heads. The Avengers presales broke the internet, the Academy squared off with both Netflix AND the federal government, & there’s this fun event called Wrestlemania dominating the life of at least one of us.

On the audience interaction front, we had some great questions for you again on Twitter, but we decided to feature perhaps your strongest responses yet to our latest SixDegreesOfMMO. It was easily the most difficult week to choose a winner, and we hope you can match or beat the enthusiasm with our new challenge. 

We shared some personal stories & had plenty of fire in this ep. Also Mike shared his pizza eating experience at Sally’s of New Haven, Mike 1 recapped what happened at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremonies, & we had a lot of rage over the new development between Netflix and the Academy, especially when big brother arrived.

These are so much fun, perhaps TOO MUCH fun. Mike and I wanted to liven things up in the podcast studio a month or so ago when we decided to preview Captain Marvel. So we invented this game. Be 100% Accurate. Yield 0% Spoilers. It sounds impossible, but we unequivocally prove all of the skeptics wrong. We guessed the plot of Captain Marvel & “Us” already. Now since we have another major movie event, the biggest of this or maybe any year in fact, it’s time we preview & yes, Guess The Plot of Avengers: Endgame.

This episode features an intro covering the latest news and box office projections for Avengers: Endgame before we put on our writing caps and pitch you all how we would write the film in our guessing of that soon to be world famous plot.

This will be part 1 of 2.5 for our Avengers: Endgame preview mini-series. There will be another massive episode next week, where we debut yet another new episode format in our Avengers: Endgame dead pool (no, not that one). We’ve loved watching movies since we were young enough to remember loving anything. Both Mikes have shared stories about their film watching & film going lives in the past, but this is a very special Top 5’s episode. For we are counting down the Most Anticipated Movie EVENTS of our young film addicted lives. Yes, we’re dating ourselves in this episode, and we are subject to the films released during our formative years. But this episode does mean a great deal to us, and more importantly, it allows us the chance to ask YOU for your stories as well. If not the best, Avengers: Endgame is certainly the biggest movie event to date in our lives. The film is about to set as many records as there are superheroes in the story, and we do update you all atop this episode. Then we’ll have final tallies for you this Monday on MMOW. This is the first of what will be two review episodes on the movie. It’s our first reactions to Avengers: Endgame, and we couldn’t resist an Infinity Stone theme to the format.

We ask each other 6 questions, each inspired by one of the Infinity Stones. Three are in a non-spoiler section, and the other three dive into full spoilers of the plot. But don’t worry, you’ll have a spoiler warning interlude to make sure you don’t listen beyond the break. The questions tease out our first impressions before we break down the film in greater detail in another special episode for next week.

Nick Mundy’s appearances on Conan, his sketch comedy for CollegeHumor, and his great work in TV & Film has made him one of our favorite comedians. So it’s an absolute thrill to get him on the show to help us review Avengers: Endgame.

We follow some of our usual formatting. In the non-spoiler section, we discuss our theater going experiences, the production values, performances, the script, and how it all should result in red carpets for this movie in our Oscar Lens. But we also have a blast working in some fun extra questions. Instead of a teaser review, we ask Nick how he’d discuss Avengers using only animal noises. Rather than completing the non-spoiler section with final thoughts, we ask each other if the film is food, what kind of food would it be?

So when the spoiler section begins, we stick with our formula of equal parts analysis & ridiculousness. Bottom Line: we have fun talking to Nick Mundy about one of our favorite film going experiences in a long damn time. Yes, we discuss all our bests & worsts from the plot, and we break down some of the film’s coolest easter eggs along the way. But Mundy also admits whether or not he cried & how he ranks the thrills of the movie up with some of the best moments of his sports fandom.

We compare the Awards Season with the sports world & dive into a hypothetical discussion on how pundits should cover the Oscars in non-spoilers. Then we add more substance to the conversation as we refute some of the common criticisms of Endgame before we praise the themes & statements made during that incredible finale. As usual, it’s equal parts seriousness & silliness, and we’re thrilled to find a kindred spirit in one of OUR heroes in Nick Mundy.

This recording just flew by for both of us Mikes. We didn’t have too many edits. Neither Mike really took a breath or broke eye contact. This episode was just meant to be. It’s the MCU Awards! May Stan Lee be praised. Excelsior, true believers!

We could probably do a solid 5 hours on this topic, just coming up with new categories in which to gush. MMO has lavished affections on the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the entirety of the life of our podcast for a reason. Marvel Studios makes great films that we love, and we love talking about them.

So this episode chooses 20 categories. Full disclosure, I couldn’t rewatch ALL of the movies yet again before preparing the show, & i’s quite possible I left some other moments out of this. But as we all know from covering awards seasons, this is nothing new or different for the Academy. So do let us know your snubs.

If you enjoyed this episode, you’re in luck. We have covered & reviewed every single MCU movie since Tony built that first suit. We did the first 18 films in 6 episodes leading into Infinity War. We dedicated a full episode to the first Avengers 4 trailer, covered all the subsequent ones in MMO Weekly, and then we embarked on a two part preview. There’s our customary Guess The Plot, where we flex our writing muscles and beg Disney to hire us. Then we did a dead pool (no, not that one), where we guess who will live and die. We think these will play even after you’ve seen the film. In one of our best audience interactions to date, we asked our fans to tell us their most anticipated movie events, which we covered on MMOW. But before that interaction, we released our Top 5 Movie Events in its own episode, where we told some wacky true stories about why we love to see great popcorn movies. Finally, we just finished our two part review of Avengers: Endgame. Part 1 covered our first impressions & for part 2, we were lucky enough to land one of our favorite comedians from TBS’s Conan and IGN, Nick Mundy, and we had a blast breaking the film down with him.
