I hope this is a faulty unit, I really like the idea of using this microphone a lot. I've initiated a return to Thomann.de as a Warranty Repair.

UPDATE: at this point I can pretty much confirm this recording is from a faulty unit. I now have a replacement that does not appear to demonstrate this digital-nasty noise-floor and also stays connected to my Mac reliably in maintenance mode.

Testing the MXL USB.007 with iPad 2 - bus power only works ok with iOS 4.3.2. Unfortunately monitoring is not possible using FiRe 2, not sure about other apps. I hope iOS 5 is more USB preamp friendly ... would love to use my Centrance MicPort pro with my supercardioid on my iDevices.

Not recorded at all scientifically, but compare the TX101 for reference with the frequency response of the Apple iPhone3G and Google HTC Nexus One. Recorded quick&dirty with Sound Devices 702T and Neumann RSM-191.

Compared: Logic3 TX101, iPhone3G speaker, Nexus One speaker

Originated from 24/96 recording of de-bearding captured by a Neumann RSM 191 XY/100deg into a Sound Devices 702T. Compressed to 192kbps AAC.
