It was the second day of Locktober, 
long road trip 
delivering boxes to some place 
that made Christmas decorations and dildos
I was taking a quick nap on the shoulder of the 405

I dreamed about the overpass 
that loomed before me 
I'd be driving into its shadow 
as soon as I was moving again. 

My truck would surely clear 
but what if there was a speed bump 
unseen somewhere between here and there
obviously that's unlikely but then 
not entirely impossible 

there could be some gleaming 
white mound of concrete,
pearly and white just waiting 
to enact the carnage upon my truck,
to produce a debris field of Christmas themed carnage. 

You can only experiment with speed 
going upwards to the point of failure. 
Maybe three hundred miles and hour, 
is the optimal speed for a single speed bump
but you would never know, 
because your most likely to start low,
then work your way up 
to when the forward inertia most counteracts 
the vertical travel of the suspension and thus 
the option of resonance or aerodynamics 
are never introduced to the experiment. 

In my mind I imagined my truck 
a simulation, a badly rendered 3d version of myself
with a few very attractive people 
with lab coats huddled over a screen,
watching me hit this metaphysical speed bump 
over and over again. 

They would make observations 
about mathematical nuance,
and physics using language, 
that involves words I couldn't even spell,
nor pronounce. 

A technician named Sidney, 
with a blond crop top,
and an earring shaped like a banana
suggested the simulation be used 
to test the optimal speed for 
imaginary speed bumps  
on all the 405's in all the world, 
and thus the answer was 45. 
except for the 405 in Sidney.

It began to rain. 
the noise on the roof 
rousted me from my revelry. 
I woke up shouting. 
"The 405 in Sidney has kilometers!"
