Wondered why mixes don't sound like they used to?

I'm sorry to say it once again, but a good mix has the fundemental skill of beatmatching and rhythm that some of the new jokers have not got and even some of the old boys for that matter.  And what is more, out of all my sets, the vinyl ones have the strongest beats and bass.

So with reissue vinyl being all the rage, I got some albums and spun em on the wheels of steel.  This mix is a first take freestyle.

With bands as diverse as Pink Floyd, Daft Punk, Beatles, The Doors, Pulp and Fleetwood Mac it was not always possible to get em exactly beatmatched, but OK results, and you can hear Daft Punk finally coming in solid V Pink Floyd Run like Hell from the Wall.

The end few include Daft Punk V Daft Punk as was double album, with some solid mixing, but there is a track on Daft Punk that sounds very gritty and keeps going out!


Most records just come in freestyle once the needle has hit the vinyl, this sort of mixing you could not really do with CDJ's etc, the blend of the analogue sound of the vinyl allows more looser mixing.



This is a first take just trying out ideas, but here it is for you to enjoy!

Performed on a pair of Technics 1210's with Pioneer DJM 700 mixer.

Experimental #vinyl mix Pink Floyd V Daft Punk + Beatles & The doors ++!

 The authentic #techno #vinyl #germantechno set!

If you miss the sound of the old style of mixing on the wheels of steel then this one is definately for you.

I got some of the latest German techno from Juno on #vinyl as a mixing experiment.

There are a  few mixing styles, but the basic technique was slap the records down and start beatmatching.  There is a wee motif going-on with one particular record being used to mix the others against but not always.

This is a 1st freestyle take.  It is not perfect unlike the stale generic #edm sets done on sync using a laptop.  This is the real deal and you can really hear how I mix .  Some tracks have some really solid beatmatching against each other with bangin beats.  Some beats are in for a bit then go out.  At one point near the end the needle skips but I kept it in, as in a live environment this kind of thing happens and it adds to the authenticity.

I could have done a second take and have it more polished, but I'm by with that, I want to keep my mixes as fresh as possible for a true organic live set.

The rhythm keeps going and buildsup and down.  All the records are different in some way and some are not your strict 4 by 4 borathon.  The second last record is weird but wonderful and ends up with an uplifting vocal tune.

I've been experimenting with a new mixing style on this set as well as beatmatching and it seems to work quite well, so more experimentation with this in future mixes.  It means I can include different types of records without needing to purely beatmatch em and still sounds nice, if not even neater.  But don't worry The Blinder will always be about the beatmatching and defending this dying skill.
