"Gerard Hanson was born in 1972. He hails from the unlikely environments of Dallas, Texas USA. Little is known about this producer who seems to have Scandinavian roots. His productions have reflections with Basic Channel/Chain Reaction sound. His main inspirations are Juan Atkins and Derrick May. His music also has influences from Stefan Robbers, Red Planet and Carl Craig.

He found a way where everything came together: Deepness, Minimalism and Soul, the Detroit-Berlin connection. In 1994 Gerard Hanson and Dan Kurzius started 'Hardsync', a Magazine dedicated to electronic music reviews and artist interviews. It has been defunct since 1996 as a result of a computer crash. Hard Sync was an outlet for several Texas-based electronic music enthusiasts to reach out to others around the world that shared similar musical interests. He released his first 12" in 1995. Ever since his debut 12" on Matrix in 1995. From 1995-1997, he released 5 ep's, and then only 2 more in the next 6 years until 2005. The reason he produced so infrequently was because when his first releases came out, the tracks were licensed to some big releasers and he did not get paid for them.

After that some other labels approached him but just wanted more of the same and didn't really seem to understand his sound. They just wanted more of the same sounds. After that he stopped releasing music and produced only for his personal usage. After a couple of years the label Down Low convinced him to pick up his producing again. He is very careful about sharing his music with the rest of the world. In the last decade he only used the aliases Convextion and E.R.P. (Event Related Potential). E.R.P is an electro-edged moniker. Gerard has remained willingly anonymous since his debut in 1995, but he came out of obscurity for a debut European Live performance in London in April 2006. Why he remains unknown is a mystery. This months mix is by Agonis from Basel, Swiss. Co-founder from the ‘amenthia recordings'. Together with his friends Varuna and Garçon (who runs Amenthia together with Agonis) they shaped this resilient and airy mini musical universe, operating in a world of techno, but far away from the heavy tenebrous Techno. 
Such a pleasure to share this fluid piece, propelling in subtlety. Make sure to check out Agonis recent album ’Neutropia’. 
His mix combines some major influences for ‘Neutropia’, tracks from the album and forthcoming stuff which will come out on ‘amenthia recordings’ this year.

With the 42th episode we finalise the seventh series of SALON. To close this series in style we’ve invited the South-Korean artist Cobahn who recently relocated to the Netherlands. With her deep and ritualistic sound Cobahn manages to guide her listeners in a meditative state of mind. With this ability it’s no surprise that she has been strongly associated with Vurt where she shared the line ups with many other amazing artists.

We asked Cobahn what she wants to translate with this mix, about she had the following to say:

“When I'm working on music, I like to set a certain atmosphere or story for each project. In this mix, I tried to capture a mental journey that explores the subconscious that is happening deep inside my mind. With sounds that inspired me recently I aimed for a soundscape of chaos, distortion, transformation, and various abstract emotions intertwined in darkness and light.”

Convextion - Live In London 2006

Brace yourself for a gale-force whirlwind of hammering beats and robotic groans, this one’s an unremitting hour of dizzying and densely packed rhythms. By all accounts, Japan is a must-stop destination for techno lovers, the wealth of sounds in its export ledger reveal a strong culture for parties and music production; from north to south, the country more than pulls its weight. A little known corner on the northernmost island of Hokkaido is home to this next guest. By now, OCCA’s a local fixture, whose galloping techno has fired up crowds at Future Terror, Gong, Exit the Labyrinth and Balance, as well as ravers from his very own Archiv parties held at legendary Sapporo mainstay Precious Hall. Intro over, now for the music: his techno is threatening and mercurial, an ever-mutating patchwork of frenzied rhythms and throbbing synths. Bassiani Podcast 184 is an hour of pure techno chaos, supercharged beats from this esoteric 4/4 master.

Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. Tune in for high fidelity alien psychadelia teased over hypnotizing interstellar grooves 👽👾🛸

This next one comes from way out east, the axis of Asian electronic cool named Tokyo, Japan to be more precise. Local DJ Yui is a keystone of his city’s cultural offering, with regular slots at Vent, Womb, Mitsuki et al, and his prolific Dreamescape party has added something irresistibly new to the mix too, inviting guests such as Haruka, Resom, and Bassiani’s very own HVL to his temple-studded, neon-lit hometown. Carefully, methodically slicing up visceral beats, Yui builds a heavy web of dubby techno rhythms that yield dance-focused and clever results. Heavy, full, sweaty and embodied techno, his sound is highly refined and cool to the core, and his sets, for those who find themselves in his neck of the woods, are a must-see. Enter Bassiani Podcast 225: a transcendental voyage from beginning to end, from sinister frequencies through taut echoes, dry beatwork, layers and layers of mechanical emotion, and a delicate IDM epilogue in tow. It’s an hour of haunting sounds that shape-shift and climb then descend back to this earthly realm with the softness of a falling feather. Nebulous techno from an antediluvian void, Yui’s sharp-witted sound at its finest.
