Don't Need Your Love

Old School Calling is the lead single off Mila Nile’s forthcoming EP, Do You Remember That?, a collection of nostalgia-soaked pop tracks chronicling the five most influential moments in the singer’s journey from adolescence to adulthood.

Old School Calling sits at the more optimistic end of the EP’s emotional spectrum, a joyful celebration song about friendships that feel like they’ve existed for a lifetime. The track’s upbeat chorus is buoyed by a gang vocal, featuring voices of some of Mila’s closest friends from around the world. 

“Like most people, I’ve spent more of the past year thinking about the life I’ve lived than actually living it,” Mila explains. “That’s definitely reflected in this single, which is about taking time to be grateful for the wonderful people I’m lucky enough to call friends and celebrating those friendships that feel like they’ll last a lifetime.”

Created between Mila’s home studio in Sydney, Australia, and the studio of LA-based producer HVTCH, Old School Calling is an uplifting and honest reflection on the ups, and occasion downs, of international friendships and lifelong connections.

Daughter is  a heartfelt examination of life as an Australian-based expat unable to return home to family and friends in Covid times. The raw performance features Mila Nile at her most vulnerable, as she pleads for a chance to return to the simplicity of home.  

Mila explains, I wrote this song in 2020 just after the end of the first lockdown in Sydney, Australia, where I live. Me and my partner had rented a small AirBnb outside of the city and, once we found some fresh air and open space, the words just came falling out of me one night. It's now been two years since I was able to visit my home country to see my family in Sweden and we have just entered another lockdown, with no end in sight. I wish it wasn’t true but this song is more relevant today than the day I wrote it.”

In a world where every success story is right under your nose it’s easy to feel like your own accomplishments are insignificant. But it’s so important to look back at your life and remember that every part of it has helped shape you. 

At the end of the day I wouldn’t change a thing. 

For all of the people around you living seemingly perfect lives, they all have their own struggles. You can only truly understand yourself and live the life you’re living.
