Wretched Cuts is the new solo EP by gender-nonconforming techno artist, Projekt Gestalten. The release comes via the New York’s Mild Fantasy imprint run by DJ Elle Dee and features three original themes focusing on introspective techno plus a remix by veteran, The Lady Machine.   

The project reflects an array of themes using as the starting point the story of Estamira and the Brazilian documentary of the same name, telling her life story. Estamira was an incredibly enlightened older woman who scattered one of the largest landfills of Rio de Janeiro for food. Not because she had to, but because she loved that place as she loved “her own children” and enjoyed making a living out of other people’s disposable goods. Simultaneously, while dealing with schizophrenia and abuse, she believed she was a superior spiritual being whose magical powers could control time, space, and other elements of nature. 

The tracks are inspired by some of her most memorable quotes and moments that made an impact on Projekt Gestalten. “Wise People In Reverse” goes into a darker approach and samples Estamira’s voice talking in a mysterious unknown language with an unrevealed force, using only a broken piece of a telephone that she had just found it in the trash. “Morte Macaca” takes a rhythmic approach towards dub techno, and “Holographic Principle” gets trippier and hallucinogenic with Projekt Gestalten’s signature acid lines. The Lady Machine’s “Wise People In Reverse” remix takes the original theme to a driving, peak hour approach and transforms it into an effective DJ tool.

After honing her craft in Boston with the INFRA collective, she co-founded the Aversion label and event platform, collaborating on events with collectives such as Detroit Techno Militia in Detroit, BCCO from Berlin, Maison Fauna record label, Uncloiled label from Minneapolis, and more. Aversion also launched a label, releasing its first VA (Various Artists compilation) in February of 2024, featuring residents of the label and its friends, with plans for their next VA release this summer. Her high-energy sets, rich in percussion and tension, create electrifying atmospheres at venues like Basement NY, Leland City Club (Detroit), Paragon, Bossa Nova and more. As a community builder, KXAH hosts "Fight Club" events in a gym setting, promoting female creatives and fostering connections within the industry.

Ne/Re/A is a Spanish DJ/producer based in Brooklyn, that merges main floor heavy hitters, industrial, hypnotic and EBM meticulously and has been a regular in the Brooklyn techno scene and major clubs for years with her distinct energetic sets. She is Resident DJ at MERGE, the Queer Techno rave in Brooklyn and founder and resident of the bimonthly party Distrikt1 at Bossa Nova Civic Club. She has done appearances across the US, Europe (London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin) and Latin America (Colombia, Mexico) in established clubs such as Tresor or Basement. Her productions are a blend between industrial techno, ebm and evolving melodic touches.

Mild Fantasy is a new label from New York and its owner Elle Dee inaugurated the first EP with original tracks and collaborations with False Witness.

With an ear for darker sounds, the newest release is from Bazilian Projekt Gestalten who has released music on voxnox, KONFLKT and Advanced (Black), but is also a resident at Berlin’s Pornceptual club nights that has seen guests such as DVS1 and Freddy K.

The Lady Machine runs the up and coming Unterwegs imprint alongside Decka and for this DT:Premiere we selected her remix of “Wise People In Reverse” that has an industrial edge and stomping beat. Modular sparks and stabbing chords are met with deep metallic hits and an overall menacing feel that has been crafted for delivering dance floor devastation.
