NIN Vs NIN Track 1

Sooo i durped around with making a sub bass and some chords. I actually started with a different chord progression and rhythm but it was way to energetic and cheesy as fuck, so I dropped it for basic reggae dub chords, and.... it worked well I guess? i just need  to make the chords not be stock DX10 preset, change the drums so they aren't stock presets in drummax, and then add something for mid-range so it's more interesting.

I can't into reggae vocals so it will probably be guitar or something.... if I ever make anything out of this that is.

I was bored. I made this in VGM Maker, which was a freeware/shareware thing that is nolonger available, and the programs author doesn't understand how copyright for software works and thinks that saying "noone is allowed to use it because I don't support it anymore" means its illegal to use. no it fucking doesn't, it means its abandonware. sooo needless to say I just made a song with a tool that is nolonger available.

So, I wanted to be able to make the random semi-mechanical computer noises of the geth, and be able to make the voice of Legion, both from mass effect. 
Both the sound at the start, and the vocal part, are made using the same synth and settings.
The first one is a vocoder where both carrier and modulator are the same source sound, and in the voice, it's the same vocoder, and the same carrier, but with an  acapella modulator.

The carrier is a pitched, very low (bass and sub-bass level) Pulse wave, but with an ultra-fine pulse width, like 1/100th or less. I tediously did that with sytrus. My previous attempt was based on a video tutorial on youtube that used audacity's vocoder, using "Radar poles" as a carrier, and It worked reasonably well but couldn't be pitched, so I did a bit of research to find out what it is, and it turns out a "radar pole" is in this case, a single high frequency pulse, that includes most frequencies (pulses do), and just plays it like a popping sound. this clearly was what I needed, but I had to reverse engineer this in a pitch-able way in FL.

the vocoder used was Vocodex, with lots of custom settings. I made this a while ago, and have it saved as a preset for both sytrus and vocodex, so I can re-use this, but it is 100 bands, but I did something weird to it. It was ages ago AND i was half asleep at the time, which is weirdly when I do all my best work, that I can never seem to replicate.

I did all this because I wanted to make music with a voice that sounds like Legion in Mass effect 2, to be the vocals. I thought it would be kinda cool. ish. 

The vocal acapella is "Laugh at life" by "Mayhem". 

Attempt At Geth noises & Voice

so I was testing out magical 8 bit plugin, and my ability to re-write music mostly by ear, and I found myself making east hastings by GSY!BE from F♯ A♯ ∞. I kinda botched it at the end but even if it's not totally accurate, I still think it sounds okay, and haunting as fuck, which is exactly what I love about east hastings. so there's that.

I was sick when I wrote this. this is just a test of sound design and an attempt at retrowave. Not sure how well I did, I'm kinda sick atm and keep sneezing. I sneezed 3 times typing this. I could barely focus while working on this. I think the kick and snare turned out pretty good though.

So, I suddenly realized one of the characteristics of some of the dubstep basses I was trying to make and realized part of how I was doing it was a bit wonky, so I made one simple change to it. One change. I replaced one thing with something I made in 5 seconds to do a specific thing, and  boom, there it is. instant growl. and now I can slap it on literally anything to make thousands of them. OOOOH BOY Here we go!

so a month or two ago I started reading homestuck. I finished. there was alot of music. alot of music. remix(es) ho! the ideas I have, oh man, I might have to make a new soundcloud just for remixes, good god.

Blind justice investigation is based on a riff from terezi's theme, and this is based on that riff, but other than those 4 bars, there's nothing from either track.

I don't know if I'll ever do anything with this other than this, it depends if I get any ideas to make it a more complete song... Right now it's just lead guitar, bass, and some really shitty drumming. and guitar/bass/drums a song does not make.

The drums are a Rorschach test for EDM Snobbery. I don't know what genre it is, But I do know I didn't aim for a genre, I just aimed for cool sounds. I don't know  if the song is "complete" or not, but I've been working on this track since 2017 and it's 2020 so unless anyone has any big suggestions for new elements for what's "missing", I guess this is done
