The fifth Item of “Tome of Stars”, “Quixotosis”, marks the poet’s transformation into a sustained state of paradox with an enduring condition of impractical idealism born not from naive delusion but from its aftermath. Emerging from the frozen void of “Anemochory“, these sixteen poems depict a fractured self that has ceased resisting its nature, accepting permanent separation from the beloved while continuing to orbit her in love without expectation (and in the end, without hope) of return.

This sonnet intertwines fantasy and physicality, myth and memory, divine presence and human loss. It opens in visionary awe, as the poet recounts a near theophany of his beloved Stargirl, casting her as an ungraspable light, more archetype than individual. Through metaphor and reverence, the beloved is elevated into a spiritual or even cosmological phenomenon. Yet this sublime union is torn apart by the speaker’s own flaws and mortal corruption, which drives her away in a fall from grace and a return to spiritual distance. Despite the loss and the speaker’s descent into ruin, the final couplet affirms a defiant act of devotion: he engraves her secret name on a band of adamant, mythical references suggesting an eternal vow and memory preserved in something unbreakable. The poem thus becomes both a lament and a consecration, portraying love as a fleeting divine visitation whose impact, though tragic, is immortalized in reverent remembrance.

The poem does not simply recount a memory of love, but dramatizes the impulse to transmute that memory into an enduring form, crafted not only in verse, but in metal, symbol, and private ritual. The creation of the ring is portrayed as simultaneously magical, romantic, and tragic, affirming the beloved’s absence even as it resists erasure. The poet still carries the ring in daily life, although he rarely wears it, wary of misinterpretation or intrusion.

There is a subtle allusion here to Gandalf’s counsel in “The Lord of the Rings“, that magic rings are best left unworn. Like the Elven rings that captivate without corrupting, this one bears no evil sorcery, yet its enchantment lies in memory: her names engraved in metal, her essence preserved through art, the very object functioning as a reliquary of longing. It holds not just remembrance, but a haunting: a channel through which the beloved’s spirit returns, not as healing, but as suspension. The ring becomes a paradox: a flame that guards the beauty of love while arresting transformation, a light akin to the Silmarils that is sacred, radiant, and perilous. It consoles even as it consumes, offering an echo of the divine that sanctifies the soul but denies it rest.
