Spektre’s Respekt kickstarts 2022 with a driving two track techno release by UK artist Transcode.

Based in Manchester, Transcode has made numerous outings on other high-flying techno imprints such as Monika Kruse’s Terminal M and Reinier Zonneveld’s Filth On Acid.

Transcode made his Respekt debut in 2019, when he dropped an EP that also featured a collaboration with SAMA, but this time he returns with a solo release.

Boasting numerous tracks charting inside of Beatport’s top 10 techno section, this hard-hitting release blends dystopian atmosphere with pounding percussion and ominous sub-bass.

“Synesthesia” opens the release with its pounding kick drum and building suspense of the ambient synth line, which leads towards the trippy vocals and breakbeat percussion of the main breakdown, before an explosive drop that’s precision-engineered for maximum dance floor impact!

Track two “Floki” is an altogether different kind of beast, its understated style focuses on a stripped back groove with dark atmospherics that creates a hypnotic vibe focused around breakbeat rhythms. Dark and intense, its underground style is in line with other techno artists such as Shlomi Aber.

For their 76th release, VNTM makes his return to Gem Records with a stellar 2 track collaboration with The Reason Y, accompanied by a timeless remix from Risa Taniguchi.

"Metaphysics" sends us straight into a hypnotic groove, with intricate textures and twisting rhythmics, it quickly shows us why it’s an instant gem. Risa Taniguchi puts her own signature spin on the leading track, giving it an open air feel, with industrial elements that tantalize the senses.

Joining forces for the first time are label founder Len Faki and Juxta Position, a rather fresh yet already integral member of Figure. How effectively the prolific producers worked them machines with combined strength shows in every fiber of this four-tracker.

The record‘s sides feature two alternate mixes of each track: Superstition tempts with is sultry vocal, driven by an irresistible acidic groove, fusing Juxta Position’s preference for rough and analogue sounds with the tight programming Len Faki has become renowned for. Paying tribute to UK’s gritty brand of warehouse-techno, A2 introduces a more swinging and all-out version of the track.

A lot more tender than its counterpart, Gathering Clouds slowly builds from jagged synths and droning basses, brewing up a vivid tempest of anticipation. Verging carefully on the moment of emotional release, we are left to imagine the theatrical scenery cooked up in this delicious blend of the two artists’ singular skills.

The dictionary defines equanimity as 'mental calmness and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.' It refers to a mind that is at peace even in the face of stressful and unpleasant experiences. Not an easy task to accomplish, especially in these times. But you see it, life is an endless continuum of dips, rises, and spirals: beginnings and endings, wins and losses, peaks and valleys, light and darkness! Seeing clearly the ever-changing nature of things can be a great relief. 

This new music comes precisely from attempting this kind of process, while in my studio-isolation. Four versions developed in this order, four moods, similar notes, four experiments with which I enjoyed incorporating my Techno with ever deeper frequencies. And yes, entirely recorded at night.
