Wake Up is a song about vulnerability, honesty, burnout and depression. It’s about the struggle and conflict between what you feel in your heart and how your mind can work against you. “It’s my head that’s pulling me down, not my heart”. I feel I've captured the angst and frustration of this
experience in the arrangement, production and performance of Wake Up. From the honest lyrics and delicate piano motif, to the pounding, heartbeat bass drum, soaring string section and passionate vocals. Wake Up is raw and heartfelt. Strong and fragile.

Wake Up

Going Away combines my Alt-Country/Americana influences with my Alternative-Pop-Rock songwriting and production. The song begins with a catchy guitar and piano motif before the full band powerfully enters. Despite the upbeat nature of Going Away, I like how the lyrics allude to a deeper, more serious theme of depression and wanting to ‘find a way out’. This purposeful juxtaposition between the lyrics and feel of the song illustrate how we can appear okay on the outside while we are struggling on the inside.

Wishing Well’s introductory drum-fill explodes into a fast-paced, gritty-guitar based song about reminiscing a past relationship where the flame had died. The fiery sound of Wishing Well conflicts with the rather honest, reflective and meaningful lyrics, creating an energy, angst and passion that is consistent throughout a lot of my songwriting and performances. The explosive production and instrumentation of Wishing Well demands attention...this is NOT background music!

Wishing Well

'Just Like You' is actually a song I’ve had lying around for quite a few years! It’s older than the other tracks on my album 'Let It Burn'. 

I previously released a live version of it on my ‘Miller Yule Live’ EP, as it was a song I had just written at the time and was testing out at my shows. It worked really well with the band live so I decided I wanted to take it into the studio to record a bigger, better, more badass version of it to eventually release one day.
 
The song came about when I was sitting on my couch in my flat just mucking about on my guitar jamming. I was obsessed with what would become the chord progression for the song. It was just so pleasing to jam. I was playing it over and over on my acoustic guitar and whistling what would become the melody. Over time I crafted the lyrics. I didn’t want it to be a sad lonely song, more an optimistic pursuit to find company.

I really like how the studio version has come out. It's got groove, it's got grit and a nice upbeat feel with endearing lyrics. It's got it all!

Just Like You

Dynamite is a song about that magical feeling of meeting someone special for the first time and leaning into wherever the night takes you. For me, Dynamite is a warm summer night. There’s that initial 'slow-burn' as you’re unravelling each other, trying to figure out what the other person is thinking. The spark between you ignites, you’re "coming undone at the seams" and then everything lights up and the night explodes!

Dynamite expresses the universal feeling that no matter what your age or background Dynamite's meaningful passion and romance rings true with a resonating nostalgia about youth and young-adulthood.

This was actually my second attempt at writing a song called Dynamite. The first version had the idea of Dynamite with the themes and imagery, but the overall execution of the song, melody, chords and feel weren't there. I rewrote everything to create a song that better captures the energy of what Dynamite is. I'm glad I did because this second version definitely blows the other version out of the water! Boom!

I fell in love with Fix You as a 13 year old. It's an honour to release a version of it in my own way alongside my very personal song Hold On.

Miller Yule is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, John Mayer and James Bay, Miller’s songs span various genres from Pop-Rock to Americana to acoustic-pop-folk and alt Country. Despite this, Miller was never meant to end up where he is; keeping the classic ‘heartbreak rock’ flame burning bright! He began playing the drums at age 11 and studied Jazz drumming all through his high school years, playing in jazz trios and big bands. It was actually his older brother who taught him how to play ‘Seven Nations Army’ by the White Stripes on the electric guitar and his father’s record collection which sparked the transition from behind the drum kit to front of stage. Whether it’s a soft acoustic ballad or an in your face, hard hitting rock banger, Miller has got you covered.
