Million Vibes Presents Vybz Kartel - "Start Well"

The second Beres-mix reflects the reality side of Beres Hammond. Even though Beres is mostly famous for his lovers tunes he has had some of his biggest hits with tunes about the almighty, politics and comments about the street violence in Jamaica. Masters time is the original version of his 90`s tune Make Way, here on the answer riddim. Beres was part of the group Zap Pow in the 70`s and they recorded Last War, the instrumental was later used by Collie Budz (Come Around) and gained huge popularity. Putting Up Resistance is definately one of his biggest and best songs ever, Black Beauty might be the most underrated, Hold On is among the best reggae songs from the mid 90`s while Try If You Want could be the best song here. Fire is a favourite song among people that don`t really appreciate Beres. No comments about that kinda people! The Journey ends the mix and is almost a Beres song about his own career. It contains a line about singing sad love songs, which means that the next Beres mix could be the best one…

"Keeping It Real" Best Of Beres Hammond Part 2

The longest mix so far but we're talking about the biggest clash mc of all time coming out of Jamaica. The mix starts off with more reggae vibes and more juggling tunes.  The mix continues two pull ups on one tune – and the tune deserves that! The mix ends with my favourite among his new tunes and two special ones, not dubplate but left overs from a dubplate session – warm up or war up as Ninja would say! When Ninjaman is good he is the best.

Artist Driven Vol. 18 - Ninjaman

The last mix with Beres Hammond and focusing on pure lovers and more on the bright side of life. Many songs on this mix have been number one on reggae charts and this mix also continues some of his most voiced on dubplate. "Groovy Little Thing" and "Can't Stop A Man" are fantastic tunes but this four mix serie of more than 150 tunes by Beres Hammond proves that there are way more to voice on dubplate! "They Gonna Talk" was released on 12 inch as "Wonder What The People Say" 1999 and might be Beres most popular tune ever. Many songs here have been a favourite for a certain person or sound. "Teeny Weeny Little Lovin" was put to my attention by Joey Fevers brother Jr. Tan and Irie And Mellow by Komposti Sound. Thanks for that!

"Soon Forward" Best Of Gregory Isaacs Part 3
Starts out with what might be the best lovers rock tune from the period. Maybe Mos Def thinks the same when he layed the lyrics ”…she walked away smiling singing Gregory Isaacs like, if I don't if I don't have you…” Maybe singers like Tenor Saw, Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott or Barrington Levy were more important for the rub a dub-period but Gregory Isaacs probably did the biggest song with "Night Nurse". Even though my personal favourite here is this later take of "Once Ago". "Can't Give You My Love Alone" has always been one of the tunes that I gotta play when it's vinyl night. The mix and this period in Gregorys career ends with rougher tunes which reflects his harder life. I read somewhere that he walked the streets in Kingston with a weapon hidden under the coat and robbed people of their drug money. And yes, I read it before I watched The Wire…
