This song is traditionally sung in the pubs around Cornwall. Jon Mills first learned this from the singing of Charlie Jose in the Cobweb Inn in Boscastle in the late 1960s. It derives from an original version written by G.W. Moore and Charles W. Blamphin published in 1869 in America. The Cornish version was noted by Ralph Dunstan (1932)in his Cornish Dialect and Folk Songs.

Turlough O'Carolan 1670 to 1738 composed O'Carolan's Concerto (alternatively titled Mrs Power) in  response to a compositional challenge by Francesco Geminiani.  It is played here by Jon Mills (on nylon-strung five-string banjo) and Bill Howarth (on dulcimer).
