This song never made it to the band rehearsal phase. It was too not the style of my other music, and didn't fit into the band's idea of what we should sound like as a collective. It was never presented live, never rehearsed, never recorded other than this kitchen recording. 
I still love hearing that opening chord. It's so damned mid-90s alternative rock.

In 2000, I wrote this song based on articles that were surfacing about a certain late grunge rockstar's wife and her blossoming career. I found it funny that the former band mate of that dead rockstar wasn't getting the same kind of backlash she was. 

My music has always had a fiction writer's approach to its backstory. Premise: the wife wrote this song in his style, sang it in hers, and accompanied herself with the bandmate's musical style. 

Lyrics: first person narrative. She imitates her husband, imagining what he'd say as a ghost. And hears him saying, "Give my ideas back to me" from his grave. While at the same time, she quips back, mocking him, at the voice in her head, the ghost of him.

When you are trying to cobble together a band, or if you already have a band, and you only have yourself a singer songwriter-multi-instrumentalist with a proclivity for audio recording, and one other band member who is similar, you create demos for your bandmates, both present and future, for them to learn the music.  Demos like this are the ultimate shorthand for musicians of all levels and walks of life. 

Unlike classical musicians, rock musicians do not require sheet music or even charts for that matter. Most like to go through the process of listening, playing, transcribing, discovering things, and then adding THEIR take on the music being presented. 

I take that stuff to heart. When you're in a band it's the ultimate collaborative process that requires the band leader and songwriter to let go, and be open to and to allow interpretations and stylistic changes to happen. It's the nature of the process!

Music producer and engineer major, David Colozzi asked for and received special permission from the college to use a non-student (me) as his music production and engineering final project. That was not something normally allowed by the college.

He pulled a session band together, and I instructed and directed them. It was during these rehearsal sessions where I wrote this song.

I initially wrote this for a film, but that project fell-thru.
 "In Your Mind" features the original stream of conscious lyric writing done off-the-cuff vocal and lyric I came up with while listening to playback of the basic guitar track. Sometimes I have a concept for a song and I find that if I just sing the melody I've created the lyrics just flow. Sometimes when I do that, the lyrics can change the rhythm and the notes of the melody. There are so many ways to approach music. I most prefer to not have restraints on my various processes. 
My vocal on that isn't the best because I was working through the melody while adding improvised lyrics. This track certainly gives you an idea of my mind can do during a flow state.

This is not an official release, more of my concept of one.

I initially wrote this for a film, but that project fell-thru, so I decided to film myself singing and playing it to get it out of my system and put it "out there." The other two songs of this three part series, I never really fully developed. One of the underdeveloped songs does have a really rough recording of it with literal improvised vocal and lyric, it's titled: "In Your Mind" also posted here to SoundCloud.

She's Got One Second - Kitchen Recordings (Demo songs for the band to learn) 2002

I wrote this after moving to NYC in 2000. I was homesick, and I was thinking on memories of being in my bedroom when I was 10 years old and waking up on an early Saturday morning to the sound of kids - already outside playing. I loved playing games, especially baseball. (I eventually went on to be my high school's softball pitcher, but had to quit due to time management issues. I was in 6 choirs and 2 show choirs and drama club...) I love the game, I love movies that feature baseball either at the center or as a backdrop. Anyway, when I initially wrote this back then, it was with piano and voice. I recently decided to add an organ, kinda like one would hear at a game.

Artist note: 
I wrote, performed all instruments and vocals, recorded, engineered and edited this alone in my apartment in the summer of 2005. At the time, I had planned on revisiting any previously created music to remaster or edit or reproduce. This song "Pictures of You" falls under the revisited and revised-- category.  Unlike other songs on the 10 song album, I liked that this one-- its structure and featured elements are nods to the artists by whom I was most influenced at the time.
