John Thayer 

John Thayer is a New York-based musician and audio engineer whose work blends studio techniques with improvisatory performance, drawing deep inspiration from the natural world. A trained drummer and percussionist, he has toured internationally and specializes in capturing nuanced sound with a deep focus on fidelity. His recordings and productions range from ambient soundscapes to polyrhythmic electro-acoustic collage and have been released by labels including AKP Records, Not Not Fun, Aural Canyon, Mexican Summer, and Moon Villain. In addition to his solo work, he is a member of YAI with David Lackner and Earth Room with Robbie Lee and Ezra Feinberg, and has collaborated with artists such as Zeena Parkins, Arp, and Lea Thomas.

At the beginning of 2025, I upgraded my live setup. I blended electronic sounds near my window at home, using the Sonicware ELZ_1 play synthesizer and Monome norns shield effect patches, with the Soma Cosmos as the main lo-fi effect.

I slightly reconstructed some of my past tracks, centering on bubbly, percussive synth sounds. New tracks are set to be released on a cassette in the summer of 2025.

One of my favorites is a track called tang sang sen, which has a soothing and chill-out vibe.

2025年頭に LIVE機材を新調しました。sonicware"ELZ_1 play"のシンセサイザーとmonome"norns shield"のエフェクトパッチをメインエフェクトsoma"cosmos"でlo-fiな電子音に自宅窓際で煮込みました。
ポコポココポコポ感じるシンセの音をメインに過去曲を少し再構築しました。新しい曲は2025年の夏以降にリリース予定のカセットに収録予定です。
癒しやチルアウトみがある炭酸泉という曲が私は気に入ってます。

An experimental music composer exploring lo-fi, ambient, new age, drone, and left-field.

In 2012, while based in Nagoya, released unrest under "Powell Shovel Audio."
After relocating to Tokyo, released Cat & Town in October 2022 via Shanghai-based label "eating music." This was the first release in nearly a decade, created during the COVID-19 pandemic, and was available in both cassette and digital formats.

Since 2023, has been consistently releasing 2–3 cassette works annually through international labels.

名古屋を拠点に活動していた2012年に"Powel Shovel Audio"より「unrest」をリリース。
東京に拠点を移し2022年10月にコロナ禍によって制作された約10年ぶりの音源が上海の"eating music"より「Cat & Town」をカセットとデジタルでリリース。
2023年以降、海外のレーベルからカセット作品を毎年2,3本発表中。

MIMINOIMI (from JPN), the organizer of the festival Ambient / Week, is now launching a podcast.
With a focus on introducing adventurous music, building creative networks domestically and internationally, and fostering collaboration across diverse fields, MIMINOIMI aims to bring these goals to life even further. Along with producing live shows and talk events, MIMINOIMI is launching the ”MIMINOIMI podcast”.

In the post-pandemic era and the age of streaming, the diversity of online music platforms has reached new heights. In this context, the "MIMINOIMI podcast" serves as an experimental space that complements live events, supporting new forms of music distribution, connection, and development.

The podcast will feature a range of content, including ambient mixes by DJs, intimate music selections from musicians’ bedrooms, and various discussions and interviews related to sound and music. These will be shared from multiple angles on SoundCloud.
