In my activity, I create works by combining different kinds of sounds. Multiple layers and changing scenes make complexity and stories. I like to create a continuous dynamic story and a stream of consciousness in my work.
This time also I mixed pieces of various styles, such as field recordings, sound collages, electroacoustic sounds, and improvisations. And some of them are taken from the catalog of my own label "zappak".

私は自身の活動のなかで、異なるものを組み合わせて作品を制作しています。複数のレイヤーやシーンの転換は、複雑さやストーリーを生み出します。作品のなかにひとつづきの動的なストーリーを組み立てること、意識などの流れを生み出すことを私は好みます。
ここでも同様に、異なるスタイルのピースを混ぜ合わせてミックスを作成しました。フィールド・レコーディング、サウンド・コラージュ、電子音響、即興演奏などのピースが用いられており、自身のレーベル"zappak"からの作品も含まれています。

Leo Okagawa is a sound artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He started recording environmental sounds in 2014, and around that time he started making multilayered collage works from elements of recorded sounds, analog machine’s noise, and simple electric tones. His works were released from the labels in many countries.
He has also been working on an improvised performance since 2017. Using some electronic devices, he explores the structural possibilities of sound through the combination of simple tones.
In 2022, he started his own record label, “zappak”, and has been publishing music by other artists on CD. In addition, as one of the label’s activities, he also organizes live performances for other artists.

東京を拠点とするサウンド・アーティスト。2014年よりフィールド・レコーディングをはじめ、ほぼ同時期より、録音した素材やアナログ機器のノイズ、シンプルな電子トーンによる多層的なコラージュ作品の制作を開始する。これまでに国内外さまざまなレーベルより作品が発表されている。
2017年からは即興によるパフォーマンスもおこなう。いくつかの電子機器類を使用し、シンプルなトーンの組み合わせによる構造的な可能性を模索する。
2022年には自身によるレーベル「zappak」の運営を開始し、本人以外のアーティストによる作品をCDで発表している。レーベルの活動の一環として、他の演奏家によるイベントの企画もおこなっている。

This mix was conceived during a two-and-a-half month stay in Aarhus, Denmark, from January to March, 2025. In mid-winter there, the sun doesn't rise until nearly 9am, and it sets by 4pm. Even during the day, the light is soft, as if farther off, distant. There are no mountains in Denmark, and so the wind is strong. On cold days, the wind can take your breath away, sweep the air right out of your lungs. The beginnings of the mix formed from the sounds that calmed me and kept me warm as I was adjusting to this new environment. The soothing refrain of Yoshio Ojima's 'Radio Star' in particular assuaged my anxiety as I lay staring at an unfamiliar ceiling. In late February, I visited Paris for the first time, and the moment I stepped out of the Gare du Nord, I was captured by the aura of the city and it's layer upon layer of history. The remainder of the mix coalesced during this trip, the focus being on a combination of 90s sonics. The recordings for the opening and closing were also made in Paris.

Zefan Sramekの基本名義 "Precipitation"。House, Techno, Ambient, New-Ageの音を混ざっているプロジェクト。ヴィンテージシンセとハードウェアを使い、2011年から活動している。雲の動き、流れ水の音、森林の緑などにインスパイアされているメランコリックなサウンド。アンビエント、環境音楽、ニューエージのカセット・レーベル、梅レコード、のオーナー。2019年から東京で活動している。

"Precipitation" is Zefan Sramek's central alias, a project that mixes House, Techno, Ambient and New-Age sounds. Using vintage synths and hardware, he has been making music since 2011. His melancholic sound is inspired by the movement of clouds, the sound of running water, and the greenery of forests. He is also the founder of Umé Records, a cassette label for ambient, environmental music, and New-Age, active in Tokyo since 2019.

This track is based on field recordings captured by Kamimura during his stay in Iguazú, Argentina, in 2024. You can occasionally hear the sounds of a sound meditation session that took place at the foot of Iguazú Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world. Serving as the foundation of the track are underwater sounds from the Paraná River, which flows along the border between Argentina and Uruguay; the riverbed stones can be heard rolling and colliding as they resonate underwater with the current. The piece also incorporates water sounds from various places Kamimura has visited, including frozen rivers in northern Lapland, Finland, the Lake Biwa Canal in Kyoto, and the Seto Inland Sea of Japan.

このトラックは2024年に上村がアルゼンチンのイグアスに滞在した時のフィールドレコーディングをベースに作られている。世界最大の滝イグアスのふもとで行われたサウンドメディテーションの音が時折聴こえ、トラック全体のベースとして、アルゼンチンとウルグアイの国境を流れるパラナ川の水中音には、川底の石が水の流れで転がりぶつかり合う音が水中で反響している。また、これまで上村が訪れたフィンランド北部ラップランドの凍った川の水や、京都の琵琶湖疏水、瀬戸内海など、世界各地の水の音も含まれる。

Yoichi Kamimura is a visual and sound artist. He explores the inner and spiritual connections between humans and nature through field recordings, a practice he calls “Meditative Hunting.” In recent years, he has conducted research on various natural phenomena, including drift ice in Shiretoko, Scandinavian bedrocks, glaciers in Iceland, the Amazon rainforest, and Iguazú Falls, the world’s largest waterfall. Drawing upon this research, he has presented immersive sound installations, drawings, paintings, sound performances, and audio works in Japan and internationally.

This mix is a collection of pieces that have inspired me. It spans a wide range of genres—experimental music, drone, ambient, improvisation, traditional music, and field recordings—but I feel there is a shared sense of spirituality and mystery in each of them. Sometimes, when I gaze at the flame of a small candle, I sense the presence of a spirit. I hope to share that kind of subtle feeling through this mix.

Ayami Suzuki is a Tokyo-based musician, artist and improviser. Her practice revolves around creating ambient soundscapes that incorporate her folk influences in a synthesis of songwriting and improvisation. Since returning to Tokyo in 2019 after several years of studies in Ireland and the UK, she has become an active performer, collaborator and solo artist. Her recent releases for Lontano Series, Healing Sound Propagandist, Ftarri and Cosima Pitz showcase her singular approach to vocal ambient music, often fusing her ethereal vocals with environmental sounds in a way that feels formless, immersive and expansive all at once.

東京を拠点に活動するミュージシャン、アーティスト、即興演奏家。ソングライティングと即興を掛け合わせ、フォークの影響を取り入れたアンビエントの制作を中心に行う。アイルランドと英国での数年間の留学を経て2019年に東京に戻って以来、ソロアーティストやコラボレーターとして精力的に活動している。Longform Editions、Lontano Series、Healing Sound Propagandist、Ftarri、Cosima Pitzからの最近のリリースは、ボーカルアンビエントへの特異なアプローチを示しており、幽玄なボーカルを環境音と融合させ、形のなさ、没入感、広がりを同時に感じさせる方法をとっている。

The title refers to the room number where I produced these works.

Masato Hoshino launched Experimental Rooms in 2006, a music event series based in his hometown of Niigata. The series brings together cutting-edge artists—both local and international, well-known and emerging—across all genres, staging performances in unique venues such as temples and nationally designated cultural properties. With each event, Experimental Rooms creates a one-time-only “experimental space,” drawing audiences from within and outside the region. The 50th edition is scheduled for June 2025.
Since 2020, Hoshino has also operated a publishing label under the same name. His activities have expanded beyond Niigata, including co-organizing events at Sado Island’s Earth Celebration, producing special programming for DOMMUNE, and appearing on SONAR MUSIC.
In addition to organizing events and releasing works, he contributes to music publications, writes liner notes and artist commentary, and contributes to music guidebooks as a writer.

2006年より地元新潟で音楽イベント・シリーズを主催するExperimental Roomsを始動。音楽ジャンルや有名無名を問わない先鋭的な国内外と地元のアーティストの共演、有形文化財や寺院などの様々な会場設定、県内外の来場者からなる一期一会の「実験の場 （＝エクスペリメンタル・ルーム）」を繰り返し創り、2025年6月に50回目の開催を迎える。2020年より同名による作品出版レーベルとしての活動も開始。佐渡でのアース・セレブレーション共同企画、DOMMUNE特番やSONAR MUSIC出演など、新潟市外・県外でも実験活動の場を広げ始めている。また音楽誌のコントリビューター参加、ライナーノーツや作品コメントの執筆、ガイドブックへの寄稿など音楽ライターとしての活動も行っている。

In the correspondence collection “Sound, Language, Human” between Junzo Kawada and Toru Takemitsu, anthropologist Kawada writes that while listening to Mozart felt oddly out of place during his time living in tropical Africa, he was deeply moved by how Takemitsu’s November Steps did not clash with the sounds of birds around him. This comment left a strong impression, as it seemed to suggest a new way of thinking about how music is received and perceived.

Since then, I began to wonder what kind of music can “coexist with natural sounds without canceling each other out.” That led me to discover a unique book titled The Orchestra of the Wild, which showed me that natural sounds themselves are diverse, rich, and complex—forming a sonic field in which each sound enhances the others.
Incidentally, I personally regard Toru Takemitsu as an extraordinary composer who used Western instruments to create music that resembles the intricacy of natural soundscapes. Especially notable is how he achieved this even with the piano, an instrument whose pitch cannot be adjusted—something that speaks to his remarkable ear.

Based on these experiences, I became interested in how music sounds when placed alongside natural sounds, and created this mix around that theme. It combines pieces that seem to blend naturally into the environment with others that demand focused listening on the music itself.

川田順造と武満徹による「音・ことば・人間」という往復書簡集の中で、文化人類学者である川田氏が「熱帯アフリカでの生活の中でモーツァルトを聴くと妙に白々しい感じがするのに対して、武満さんの『ノヴェンバー・ステップス』は鳥たちの声が邪魔にならなかった事に感銘を受けた」と書いていた。音楽の「聞かれ方」への新しい方向性を示しているようで、鮮烈な印象を受けた。
それ以来私は「自然音と共にあってもお互いを打ち消し合わない」音楽とはどういうものかと考えるようになり、「野生のオーケストラが聴こえる」というユニークな本に出会う事によって、そもそも自然音自体が多様で豊かで複雑に在り、お互いを生かし合う音響体であることを知った。ちなみに、武満徹は西洋楽器を使用して非常に複雑な自然音のような音楽を作り上げた素晴らしい作曲家だと個人的に思う。特にピッチを調整できないピアノでそれを成し遂げている事に、氏の耳の良さを思わずにはいられない。
以上のような経験もあり、自然音と共にあると音楽がどう聞こえるかに興味を持ち、それをテーマとしてmixを作った。より本来的に聞こえるものと、反対に集中して音楽そのものを聞きたいものとが織り交ざっている。
今はあまり多くの音楽は聞かず、曲そのものを演奏する事でその音楽を知るという事が多いので、ピアノ曲を多く選ぼうと考えたが、結局は昔から好きなものなどが入り込む混沌としたものになった

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mami Konishi studied classical piano from an early age. She graduated from Toho Gakuen High School of Music and Toho Gakuen College of Music, with a degree in piano. Throughout her career, she has explored a wide range of musical genres, including pop, jazz, club music, and ambient music. She has created and performed under her solo artist name, MINGUSS. In recent years, she has begun performing under her real name, Mami Konishi, and has further developed her expertise in extended piano techniques and contemporary music. Her focus is on the balance between score-reading and improvisation, as she explores connecting various phenomena to musical notation.

小西麻美
東京生まれ。幼少期よりクラシックピアノを学び、桐朋学園高等学校音楽科および桐朋学園大学のピアノ科を卒業。
ポップス、ジャズ、クラブ・ミュージック、アンビエントなど多様な音楽を経験しながら、ソロ・ユニットであるMINGUSSとして音楽制作を続けている。近年はピアノの特殊奏法や現代音楽の見識を広め、本名名義での活動を始めている。読譜と即興のバランスに着目し、様々な現象と記譜を結びつけた作品を模索している。
