As a teenager in the 1960s, native Brazilian Orlando Haddad fell in love with the Beatles and credits the Fab Four as the inspiration for becoming a musician and later immigrating to the United States. During the same time period, American Patricia King had fallen in love with Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66, while experiencing the Beatles by osmosis through her older siblings. When they met in the 1970s the duo’s passions for the music of North and South merged into the MINAS sound, clearly evident in this re-imagination of The Beatles fused with American Jazz and Brazilian styles of Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, Partido Alto, Afoxé, Marcha Rancho and Frevo.

Written by Orlando Haddad, Vôo da Pedra Bonita, or Flight from Pedra Bonita, is a musical adventure as seen through the eyes and sensations felt by a hang glider flying over Rio de Janeiro's mountains, sea and eventually landing on the beach. It features Orlando's guitar as the main voice, along with Patricia's vocals and piano, sharing the spotlight with great Brazilian musicians, Adriano Giffoni (bass), Afonso Claudio (flute), João Cortez (drums), Giló and Radamés (percussion). Recorded in Rio de Janeiro in 2005, it's from the Minas album "In Rio".

Based in Philadelphia for a great part of their career, Minas has been on the forefront of world music and Brazilian Jazz in the Northeast United States for the past 40 years. Led by the couple Orlando Haddad and Patricia King, Minas has recorded and released 7 CDs, 5 of them in Philadelphia. Their latest, release, "Beatles in Bossa", will be available on May 27, 22. Their last albums, "Symphony in Bossa" and "Bossa Nova Day", were indicated for 7 Grammy Awards combined. Orlando on nylon-string guitar and vocal, and Patricia, on piano and vocal, complement each other and create a mood that only a lifetime of performing together can attain. Their music is warm, vocals sensual, instruments percussive, and melodic lines are jazzy.
