Recorded at TBMC, when it was the best venue here for techno. Style wise it is quite "of its time" I guess you could say. This already made its way around the internet back then, and there were a bunch of cds of it knocking around that I gave to people at gigs or in Spindizzy. Not sure if a decent quality mp3 has been up online in a long time, so here it is now. Recording clips a little in places but nothing too bad!

"Warehouse" has become a real buzz word again in recent years. To me though, it’s just like saying "good" or "real" when describing techno/house etc. A warehouse is the natural habitat for electronic dance music to be played, just like a field is where you play football. I don’t change what I play too much according to the space, a good track will sound good anywhere. That said, I did pick out some tracks that are naturally more wide or cavernous, or which I instantly associate with warehouse spaces. This mix is like a condensed version of what you'd hear me play at one, or at any party with the right vibe."

Sunil Sharpe is a shining light in the resurgence of underground techno. Gaining an enviable reputation for his dj sets in the early '00s, Sunil soon received an invitation to play at Berlin's Tresor Club in 2001, marking the start of an intensive involvement in the techno scene. Whilst being a uniquely talented dj (and longtime dj tutor at a third­level college), Sunil also produces various strains of techno that have appeared on labels symbolic of the genre's rougher edge: Black Sun Records, Komisch, Inner Surface, Trensmat, Violet Poison and most notably Blawan & Pariah's Sheworks.

Sunil's gig schedule has increased considerably in the last few years, playing at clubs like Berghain (Berlin), The Hydra (London), Concrete (Paris), Sub Club (Glasgow) and dotting off many other countries along the way. He was also dj of choice on both Karenn European tours, the last of which was marked by his now classic Boiler Room set in London.
Sunil has also (alongside EE:V:002 producer DeFeKT) been responsible for exciting new studio project 'Tinfoil', that has quickly found favour with djs of many persuasions.

Sunil makes up one half of Tinfoil alongside fellow Dublin-based producer DeFeKT. Initially forged as a studio partnership in 2014, the pair have since racked up an impressive catalogue of 12"s on their own self-titled label. Additionally, Sunil runs Earwiggle imprint that has built a dedicated following releasing new names and old heroes into the battlefield. To date he has appeared on labels such as On The Hoof, Works The Long Nights (aka Sheworks), Black Sun Records, Rave Or Die, Mord, Inner Surface Music and more..

In Hour 2 we hand over to Sunil Sharpe, one of Europe's most renowned and well-loved techno DJs, with a mixing style that is distinctly his own. Gaining an enviable reputation for his DJing in the early '00s, he was soon invited to play at Berlin's Tresor Club, marking the start of an intensive involvement in the scene. He has recorded for labels such as Black Sun Records, Rave Or Die, Mord, Trensmat, Inner Surface Music, Violet Poison and perhaps most notably Blawan & Pariah's Sheworks. His latest release is a split 12" with Minimum Syndicat  called 'Joyless Euphoria' and his collaboration with fellow Dublin-based producer DeFeKT saw the release of Tinfoil 6 last month. He told us;
"My aim with DJ mixes like this is to make something that'll stand up in the long-term, kind of like a good record. The majority of records I played here are new or recent while the rest are mostly made up of music from the '90s, and a few from the '00s. There was no set theme but as it came together I guess it was about representing techno and some surrounding styles through a range of rhythms, moods and eras."

Sunil Sharpe Techno Mix | Boiler Room x AVA festival

The final set at Tivoli Theatre, home of District 8 since 2014, and to all manner of events since the 1930s. Its closure is a blow to the city and in particular the Dublin 8 area. Was a sad but very special closing night, am happy to have been part of it. Recorded by RTÉ 2fm
