Eric Umble is a versatile artist based in Brooklyn, known for his skills in sound art, clarinet, DJing, and event production. He has a classical music background and a passion for experimental sounds, which inspired his transition to DJing. Eric is also the co-founder, lead producer, and resident of FACETIME, a community-based platform that promotes music, dance, and visual art through events in NYC and beyond. He is a regular performer at various venues in New York, offering an eclectic blend of driving, hypnotic, uplifting, melodic, and groovy beats that never fail to mesmerize his audience.

The mix features minimal, driving, and loopy techno tracks that intensify the uplifting and melodic elements. Eric incorporates disco and house elements, using acapella vocal loops to enhance the minimal material. He mixed with two CDJs, keeping the energy high with a fast style and exploring slower tracks at higher speeds. The recording was a single take, intentionally raw and unpolished, showcasing the energy that resulted from taking risks.

With your classical background, what do you think are some elements that are similar between techno and classical music?
"On a personal note, my entire musical life has been a journey of honing into the spaces where I felt seen, supported, actualized, and safe. This started with an interest in clarinet as a closeted queer kid growing up in a Mennonite family in PA. I didn't have language to process my experience as a queer person, and clarinet gave me a method to communicate beyond words, along with a community. Discovering techno took this to a new level for me. As a DJ, I aim to share this sense of community and safety, hoping to contribute to spaces where others can feel safe enough to take a step toward healing. This is what techno does for me, and it's what I hope we can all do together through sharing and holding space for each other.

On a musical note, my favorite music to perform as a clarinetist was long-form and repetitive, and I became curious about how musical material develops over time and how methods of progression affect our experience of time. I also performed a lot of process-music that explores musical forms driven by the means and parameters of a given process vs. the traditional linear development of material. I find these concepts present everywhere in techno. When listening to a classical work that reaches a musical climax, I always want it to STAY THERE for a while and live in that climax. But it doesn't; the line continues somewhere else. Techno can sometimes feel like the climax is always there, never releasing, and unrelenting. I find this unresolved tension deeply cathartic."

It has been a while since Meru and I thought of playing together and trying some new things, since the tracks we like and play are part of the same universe, with, of course, some different approaches and impressions.
 
A B2B is never an easy thing to do, particularly the first times, so I'm quite pleased with the result :)

Tympanum Records is thrilled to announce the long-awaited return of Secus with a full-bodied EP, 'Synapse.' This Los Angeles-based artist is revisiting the label that introduced him to the world, and this time, it's a complete story spread across five unique tracks.

Premiere: Secus "Lucid Paradox" - Tympanum Records

ROI is one of the most alert and creative minds in Spain, but also an insatiable producer, if we talk about experimenting with electronic music from all angles. This is attested to by his Fanzine project, which he co-directs with The Panic Room. And it is that, in this electronic principality, where everything is governed by concepts such as purity, elegance and devotion to music, people like Roi are admired, capable of sacrificing his best years to contribute their grain of sand to the cause, forming professionals.
As a DJ he manages, without losing sight of his tendency to dance and reflection, to combine, depending on the moment, a multitude of genres with coherence and enjoyment, in equal parts, until weaving together a story with a beginning, middle and end.
He does not lack notable virtues, but the ones that should be recognized the most are his perseverance in his musical project and empathy with the public on the dance floor. In the same way, as a producer, he manages to give coherence to a wide amalgamation of influences from several decades, this unique work is very personal, and like few others, it is capable of triggering a feeling that is sometimes disconcerting, familiar and welcoming at the same time.
ROI could be defined as a cultural agent, who, beyond bringing a breath of fresh air to the
dance floor, tirelessly seeks to renew the musical language with brilliant ideas that make that experience magical, unique, but above all, so much fun as accessible and enriching.
