With a history stretching back to the very beginnings of rave music in the early nineties, DJ Andy is a foundational figure in Brazilian drum & bass. He's seen the trends and fashions, the sub-genres and evolutions, the mainstream hits and the underground anthems. He knows the music inside-out. And, with this compilation, he's offered us an insight into the kaleidoscope of styles and the surge of talent that his scene has to offer.

Of course, the Chronic and V faithful will have already been introduced to many of these artists. We're talking the likes of L-Side, Alibi, BTK, Critycal Dub and more; names we all recognise from the top end of the download charts and the set lists of the biggest deejays in the business. But then there are also those making their debut for the V family. Producers like Phizical and No Scandal, who are about to find a whole new, highly appreciative, audience.

With this strength in depth available to him in the community, DJ Andy's managed to draw together 20 tracks that reflect the full range of what this music has to offer. You'll hear influences from multiple genres, you'll hear the darkness and the light, the vibrancy and the viciousness. If you thought "Brazilian D&B" was confined to one particular sound, you'd better brace yourself for some powerful suprises.

As DJ Andy says himself, "I wanted to show that our songs can be heard everywhere. At festivals, nightclubs, at parties with friends, while travelling and even as a dinner soundtrack."

DEEPNAS Various Artists Vol. 1 is a full-scale portrait of the label. We built this compilation as a living panorama of what DEEPNAS is breathing right now: deep dnb with its cinematic pull and weight, spring-loaded jump up that switches the body on before the mind, melodic liquid funk for moments when you want light without naivety, and neurodeep as the darker, emotionally charged line within our catalog.

Here, the genres don’t compete for space in the frame — they form a single, coherent story. Like walking one long night route: first air and depth, then acceleration, then warmth and memory, and once again a dense, focused stretch where every detail speaks not for form’s sake, but for feeling. This collection is about different states of the same scene and the same language — the language of bass, atmosphere, and honest emotion.

Vol. 1 is our way of showing scale without unnecessary noise or over-explaining. If you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll recognize the DEEPNAS character within the first minutes. If you’re just stepping in, this is the best entry point: one release that opens several doors at once. Press play and choose your shade of depth, your speed, and your state of mind.

Next up on Lifestyle we celebrate our past year of releases, and give a sneaky look into the future of the label; it’s the Lifestyle Annual 2018!

This Annual marks an important moment in the life of the label; for the past couple of months we've had our heads down, thinking about what's important to us here at HQ and how to revise our look a bit. This has resulted in a fresh approach to our brand and a more refined visual style moving forward into 2019, we are very excited about it and can't wait to show you what's in store!

We’ve knocked our heads together and picked out 16 choice cuts of prime Lifestyle material from the past year, tunes that have stood out to each of us as the finest our label had to offer in 2018. We tried to keep it reasonably varied, but didn’t do so well, so expect a heavy concentration of that deep dark tech inside, as well as a splattering of other distinct sounds. 

While we have got some of the Lifestyle ‘anthem’ tunes in there, we’ve also been careful to include some for the real heads, tunes that some might have missed first time round, that we reckon deserve excavating and rinsing out. 

As if this wasn’t enough, we’ve also thrown in 10 brand-new tracks, featuring some very close connections! A lot of these tracks are from new voices we’ve just started listening to in the scene, and to make it extra personal, four of the ten tracks come from the team here at the label! Mandie, Jamie, Jono & Mersen (+ Ken) dug in and came out with some tracks of their own for the release, including the first ever release for Combine with ‘Retrograde’, a super-vibey deep liquid banger. This exclusively personal touch is the cream on the cake of this release, which itself crowns what was the best year for our label yet. 

We hope you enjoy this release as much as we enjoyed putting it together. We’re deeply indebted to all the artists we’ve worked with over the past year and beyond, without them making the tunes, and you lot buying the tunes, this label would be nothing, so we’re forever grateful for all your support in 2018, and hope we do you proud this year. We’ve got some big plans in the pipeline that we can’t wait to let you all know about, so make sure to stay connected and informed! Creatures - Anomaly

Having over 30 releases out there on many different labels, soundaddict Rogier Habraken a.k.a. Mindmapper lost his status as "new-comer" long ago. Thanks to support of many keyfigures within the scene, he has laid down a solid foundation for the future. Backed up by many gigs, residencies and appearances on events, radioshows and festivals in both the Netherlands and abroad. Next to that he's co-owner of Break-Fast Audio, sound designer and mix engineer for Dutch broadcasting and has a curating duty for the online music discovery service 22tracks.com.

Coming from a background of working with bands, playing piano, double bass and electric guitar for many years and building his own studio, Mindmapper has got all the musical skills a producer might want. What started out as recording and arranging songs played by his band, evolved in a serious affection for cutting, sampling and composing electronic music. Combined with his education as an Audio Designer, Mindmapper is a musical mastermind whose style expands way beyond just Drum & Bass. 

It's hard to describe his broad spectrum of productions in few words but one can find all sort of influences ranging from techno to rock and dub to classical. His tunes and collabarations tend to explore the "boundaries" of the genre and have been spotted, not surprisingly, by a broad audience. Support comes from Loxy, Doc Scott, Hazard, Hype, Octane & DLR, D-Kay, Bailey, Fabio, Consequence, Gremlinz, June Miller amongst many others. With material forthcoming on Samurai Music, Dispatch, Eternia Music, Soundium X, Creative Wax and CX, 2013 looks bright.
