OpenLab Radio x Yoyaku 01 – Cabanne

An hour of Shank's groovy warm up set for our beautiful party in May.

St. Petersburg is a city of musical ecosystem, where bar, terraces and vinyl record shops turn into temples of sound, and warm summer days at +26°C perfectly blend with minimal groove. It was in this setting that texture emerged—a project by Ivan Osipov from Togliatti, who spent three years crafting his signature sound: melodic, dense, just clear enough yet intriguingly complex.  

His warm-up set release is more than just music—it’s a whole story told through sound. Not just background noise, but a true immersive experience. This is for those who love to feel music, to touch its texture.  

Fun fact: this set almost didn’t happen. Ivan decided to record it spontaneously—just grabbed a recorder and did it. In the end, while warming up the terrace, his set got extended by 40 minutes, and the warm-up seamlessly flowed into prime time.

Having hosted us back in June when we rolled into Hanoi with Brasi, we needed to know more about this meticulous selector. Established himself as resident DJ at the cities Savage club, Zwi is the driving force at one of regions finest beat emporiums and has warmed up for a wide spectrum of artists that have recently included Mr. Ho, Loa Szala, nd_baumecker, Phase Fatale, Vithz, and Lamalice. As well as his continued work with Savage, Zwi also runs his own project METRØ which celebrated turning the ripe old age of six back in May. 

This diverse musical palette has led the Hanoi based Zwi to become a go to artist in the region and has massively informed his all encompassing sound. This is perfectly exhibited on his InSession for us where he moves from moody broken after hour beats through to deeper shades of house, and then through to more upfront cuts but always keeping that groove and funk strong throughout. Zwi proves that even in the far reaches of the underground there are fantastic artists and undiscovered musical gems to be found.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (2nd October) Bristol producer Decka has just released his new Begyndelsen EP via new Berlin label SPE:C, and has already been garnering attention from FACT, Boiler Room, and Mixmag, as well as featuring in the sets of Randomer, Matrixxman and Objekt. he told us;
"I recorded this mix at my home studio in Bristol. It contains mostly new tracks that I've really been feeling, intertwined with some new bits from myself and a bunch of unreleased tracks from new producers. Enjoy!"

The fifth record on NEW YORK TRAX is by Lot.te, the Turkish-born, Brooklyn-based DJ, producer and designer affiliated with The Bunker NY by virtue of two well-received vinyl releases. This politically charged record is Lot.te’s personal reflection on the current social and political climate in Turkey. With rhythmic synths tactilely brought to the foreground, Lot.te committed a masterpiece that only a skilled and thoughtful artist like himself can commit. The opening ‘Ultra Vires’ is a relentless synth-driven and warehouse-styled track mercilessly rolling at the speed of 140BPM. The deeper Ausnahmezustand follows; it is a reflective and rhythmical piece good for both home listening and the dance floor. 15.07.2016 opens the B side with its tense yet playful atmosphere and numerous constantly evolving layers of sound. Finally, Graft is a shockingly intense introspective piece. Made with the use of Japanese Taiko drums, it is a lesson in perfect sound design. VINYL ONLY!
