LAPS036 is delivered by Simon Rivera. This Release is for all the classic Techno lovers as well as for the Peak Time Heads! Rivera manages to blend these subgeners on an ordinary way. Driving rythms paired with melodic elements more known from classic Peak Time combined with the timeless darkness of classic techno. Simon Rivera really shows his talent.

With almost 20 years experience on his back as a DJ and a promoter Dtekk stands out, to put it mildly. Up To Date Festival, Salon Ambientu, Secret Location events in Poland – Jędrzej Dondziło curates all of these while touring extensively around Poland and neighbouring counties. His vinyl only sets feature a broad spectrum of what’s best in techno music on one hand, and on the other hand he’s an avid fan of ambient and experimental music.
Our dear friend has found the time to mix the next instalment of Black Wave podcast series. And what a mix this is!

Flash of lightning rips the darkness up above and for a split second everything illuminates in silence and serenity. For that brief moment a silhouette appears, wet, worn down and at a glance standing still. The moment passes, the thunder brings back the wave of pitch black storm. Another flash. Another moment of silence. Although the silhouette looks different. The loop continuous again and again before the wild howl and realisation comes – unknown dancer meditates in the rhythm.

October 2019 has none other than dub techno mastermind Altstadt Echo (Taylor Vincent, or @altstadt-echo), founder of @modern-cathedrals whose released on bbs from @semantica-records to @ithqdetroit 's Eyeteeth. "The concept behind the mix is that it's music for sleep deprivation - for listening to on the days after tossing and turning in bed all night, and you're barely able to keep yourself together. Sometimes it's peaceful, sometimes it's frustrated, sometimes it drifts off. It's definitely not a New Age mix designed just to make you feel better, but rather an exploration of the feelings associated with sleep deprivation."

This Moods mix navigates from contemporary classical to ambient, noise, and experimental. Something totally new for us on Moods, so grab your blanket and watch the leaves fall.

Taylor was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona in the 90s. "I started DJing when I was 15, ordering trashy UK Hard House records on the internet and hoping they didn't get warped by the heat before I got home from school." A move to Michigan for school in Ann Arbor, then a move to Detroit to found Modern Cathedrals, shifted landscapes, temperatures, and communities from the 00s to early 10s. 

Techno, of course, was there in Detroit, against the city's cold nights and empty streets. "I think I first heard techno scattered throughout some of the early Warp Records and Rephlex label catalogs, but it was kind of accidental as I was really just interested in the IDM. I started listening to techno in earnest in 2009, I think. At first it was some minimal-ish techno (think: Perlon) and dub techno (which I was introduced to by old mixes by Placid).

"For the rest of the songs, it's really just been about years of online digging. I listen to contemporary classical and ambient all day while working, so I get through a lot of material. There were some artists I really wanted to fit in (like Jóhann Jóhannsson) but if it didn't fit with the flow and balance of the mix then I didn't want to force it."

For example, let's take the the last song in the mix, "Sleep." That's a track from a high school friend, Patrick. "We were sitting on the floor of his basement, not really doing anything, and it came on. I grew up singing in choirs and honestly had a lot of disdain for them, but hearing this track opened me up to genre again. Since then I've gone on to sample choir pieces in my own music on a regular basis. It's still a big source of inspiration."

I then paired Altstadt Echo's mix with one of my all time favorite photographers, An-My Lê, whose work documents war films and military exercises, shooting on-site with producers and instructors in order to demonstrate how America canon-izes the military industrial complex. This sparse piece shot during a training exrcise in California vibrates well with Altstadt Echo's nuanced mix. Both, in many ways, are painting landscapes with their work.

His work explores the motion of sound through an instinctive way of working; he makes field recordings and then he extracts movement out of natural sounds, afterwards, he combines this sounds into live electronics through the journey of inertia, creating a smooth and organic blend, fusing two different worlds into one.

Llegamos al número 21 de Isolation Series de la mano de Irazu. Nacido en Madrid, pero viviendo en algún lugar de Europa, su conexión con la música electrónica es solo un símbolo del expresionismo sonoro del autodescubrimiento para tratar de saber quién es.

Irazu define su trabajo como "Un espacio íntimo entre la tensión y la falsa tranquilidad" y nos deja esta reflexión sobre el mix que ha titulado como ‘110’: 

“110 es un número sagrado. La soledad es parte de lo que es.

La energía que representa el número 110 es ilimitada. Tiene una propensión a tratar a las personas de manera intensa.

La profunda resonancia es la vibración de la propia soledad, la base sobre la cual se genera dicha intensidad.

Una persona con el número 110 en su mente tiende a ser consciente de su relación inseparable pero independiente con la soledad.

La soledad es una resonancia de la propia vida, la vibración es la base de la energía representada por el número 110.

Imagina estar en una situación de soledad extrema, con puntos de vista, pensamientos, reflexiones y sentimientos generados por la propia situación.

For this week's edition we are happy to feature Eafhm hailing from Mexico. Eafhm is a multidisciplinary project created recently by the evolution of different artistic and exploratory stages.

The project has developed different facets, including a career as an interpreter and audio producer when experimenting with a wide variety of musical sequences. It seeks the integration of oscillating interpersonal ideas among the variety of solid conceptions. 

Eafhm has released on labels such as Concepto Hipnotico, Healed Wounds and his own Secuencias Temporales. Enjoy.

Winding, we follow the cold and the wind, through barren valleys and deep canyons. Warmth and love come around, flora and fauna swirl around. Now, we feel the bond. With the pulse of the sea appears ancient trees. Floating in the lap of eternity. A look up, foreign colors and light glimpses illuminating the sky. Here we can be for a while.
