Spencer Hardwick’s music bridges the realms of ambient and rhythmic sounds, delivering a distinctive blend of tonal and atonal elements underpinned by infectious groove. Inspired by the evocative soundtracks of science fiction films like Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira, Spencer crafts vast, immersive soundscapes layered with ethereal pads and intricate, hypnotic textures. His unique approach reimagines tonal possibilities in a genre often defined by atonality, merging emotional storytelling with the specialist aesthetic of techno.

This storytelling focus extends to his DJ sets, which guide listeners on an emotional journey through the dystopian reality of modern society. His performances and mixes are conversations, using atmospheric tones, textures, and rhythmic sounds to explore themes of resilience and (dis)connection. While not a new concept, Spencer’s unique vision and execution distinguishes him within the current techno landscape.

Spencer’s innovative approach has earned widespread acclaim, both for his productions and for his label and event brand, VAST. The label’s debut release received support from industry heavyweights like Charlotte de Witte, Wata Igarashi, Takaaki Itoh, and BMG, reinforcing his role as a trailblazer. With a focus on pushing boundaries, building community, and bringing his vision of hypnotic techno to the forefront of the American scene, Spencer continues to help shape the genre’s future.

Rooted in jazz and shaped by rave culture, Spencer has spent a lifetime exploring the interplay between sound and emotion. His music bridges introspection and escapism, offering a bold and authentic vision of what techno can become while honoring the genre's past.

Mix Series 049 by AMX

For the 49th edition, we welcome @amx313 - a DJ/Producer who started out as a classical violinist in Detroit, MI.

Ann-Marie Teasley, known as The AM, and most recently AMX is connecting the dots between the past, present, and future of the Detroit sound. By translating the futuristic musical ideas of back then into the present, AMX is one of Detroit's most exciting new producers.The orchestra kid played in the first violin section of Metro Detroit’s Oakland Youth Orchestra before becoming a techno upstart in 2019. She made her entrance as an DJ playing underground parties in Detroit and NYC before dropping her debut EP “Black Majik” on Berlin’s Tresor label in 2022. The Detroit native also released a second EP “Sexworker” on the Dutch imprint Deeptrax Records, which Groove Mag DE described as “an abstraction of classic futuristic Detroit sound.”

The AM began to release electro tracks with catchy vocals under the monicker AMX while touring Europe and South America last year, starting out with “Ride.” On NYC’s Haus of Altr label. Followed by “Werk it” on International Chrome. She returns to the Tresor label this spring as AMX for their collaboration with Carhartt WIP for a various artists compilation that celebrates two music metropolises, Detroit, and Berlin.
