In school they made fun of her
She was quiet never made a stir

Verse 2:
A hair lip and poverty
Didn’t quite fit in properly
No one knows she is there
Not someone who has any flair

I hope we teach our children better way
To stand up for the weak and not step away

Verse 3:
Sadness grew into loneliness
Many thought she was the homeliest
Put her on the sidelines
At that time there were few guide lines

Verse 4:
A spiral down and out of fine society
I couldn’t blame her if she left sobriety
Now I look back and I feel ashamed
I could have been better and not so inflamed

Back Story:
This song is based on someone I met many years ago.  They were ina deep dark spiral that they could not leave.  It was too much for me at the time.  If only I know how to help her to brighter. Better times.

I remember being one who joined in teasing her.  Now I am ashamed of my youthful mistake.  Why did I not defend her?
