Cititrax proudly presents a highly anticipated 12” from An-i, the musical moniker for Berlin-based Korean American Doug Lee. Doug has been DJing and producing records for two decades under various aliases and collaborations. The ‘Rabble’ EP will be the third release for An-i, and the first one since Gutz in 2015. The return of An-i has found him in even more brazen territory than on previous releases. He moves between musicality and chaos while remaining intriguing throughout – a testament to his uniqueness and integrity. The opener, ‘Rabble’, tonally crude and menacing, backed with a relentless primitive machine rhythm and a psychotic vocal parodying mob mentality, points at the absurdity of take-down culture. ‘Rubble’ follows, a mighty stripped-down instrumental dub. The flip, ‘Chapel Perilous’, is a wandering spaced-out journey into the psyche. It reflects on loss and ultimately freedom from one’s ego identity, meandering an uncertain path that results in a spiritual epiphany. “When I am nothing, everything is me”…

An-i’s Rabble EP will be pressed on 160-gram fluorescent yellow vinyl and housed in a high gloss black and white sleeve featuring ink brush painting by the artist. Cagey is a punchy cocktail of sly bass hooks, raw machine grooves, and found sounds, all tied together by vocals that shape-shift from staccato statements to haunted murmurs and back again. Featuring six tracks including a remix by Colombian producer Filmmaker. The opener Cagey sets the tone with an elastic, Liaisons Dangereuses-esque bassline coiling around its tail and a propulsive electro beat juxtaposed with the track's cadenced vocals. Blynde amps up the hypnotic feel a notch by throwing a momentum-building bass, snatches of words from the experimental film Anti-Clock, and detached vocals into the blender. The result is street electro evoking a secret discotheque in Rimini in 1985, overtaken by disaffected mutants. Ending the A-side is the slow burner Lawn Preacher, which builds cinematic tension with a synth hook straight from the depths of Ralf Hütter's subconscious. The sly hip-wrecker Coast to Coast kicks off the B-side by setting the tempo to a syrup-laced new beat pulse. This is the soundtrack for a car cruising along the outer reaches of a tropical beach at night. Next, Slovak Casinos picks up the pace with funky techno at its dirtiest. The track's coy vocals beckon the listener to enter a dizzying gambling world of random numbers, slot machines gone kaput, and card counters losing track. On the record’s final track, Colombian beat wizard @flmmkr kicks the gears into turbo drive on his demented speed-addicted remix of Slovak Casinos. Cagey is defined by a dry, cheeky irreverence that keeps it uncompromisingly fresh and forward-leaning. Prepare yourself for a mind-altering experience with each listen, as this record sets a new standard for electronic music operating at the outskirts of the dance-floor.

“Deceptive Surfaces” surround us and drag us into a world of illusion in which we are in constant competition with each other. These surfaces also, because they emerge from the divine source, contain a spiritual essence within them. The challenge is to perceive them for what they are, not what they claim to be. The willingness of the military industrial complex to maintain and expand power by any means should not be underestimated. Futuristic weaponry built for the total conquest of the natural world and mass exploitation of humanity lurk just beneath the Deceptive Surface of wars against drugs, terror and the rhetoric of freedom, democracy and liberty for all. The official version of history is an illusion. When we speak of stealth technology we can understand that concept to operate on at least two levels. On one level this is technology that operates without detection by radar or other forms of surveillance… However this technology is also stealth in that it is used to accomplish tasks with very different goals than those which were stated to legitimize its creation and use. So here is musical stealth technology repurposed for freedom fighting, its surface purpose is to entertain, but that surface is also deceptive for just beneath it lies the strong motive to liberate the truth, create a network of interaction between humans that serves their actual needs and melt systems of top down exploitative organization.
