There were some landscapes that simply took your breath away; the kind that made you feel like a tiny speck on this thing we call planet earth. The canyon below was a sight to behold, its huge stone surfaces coated in tones of copper and green. If you squinted hard enough you could trace clusters of tiny humans exploring the winding paths, tunnels and bridges that littered the expanse. It felt somewhat magical or metaphysical; a natural wonder of the world...

It's been almost a decade since Italian producers Rodion and Fabrizio Mammarella teamed up for a collaborative EP on the latter's Slow Motion imprint. Like their first outing, Apennini, back in 2012 this new release proves yet again why these two are a perfect production pairing, fusing their shared love of synthesized melodies and machine-driven funk and disco. The duo continue this across their Sierra Madre EP, which was recorded in Mexico City with a guest appearance from Roam Records and Duro alumni Mijo, and backed by a rework from Italo-Belgian duo Front De Cadeaux.

Everybody’s darling DJ and producer Mark Bailey – aka MAN2.0 (SXDNS081/FREEDL002) – is back on Paisley Dark, this time to bring to life, finally, his first EP on the cool British label (his previous appearances were in the role of a remixer). For the occasion, Mark cooked an(other) Acid & Dark cut: “Red Shift” is a dance-floor-oriented Techno-meets-Dark-Disco cut presenting exactly the kind of sonority expected from Mr. Two Point Zero. On the remix calling, an impressive selection of pure blood artists: Tronik Youth (SXDNS050), Steady State, Bedford Falls Players, The Machine Soul, Jezebell, and Mindbender. Each one of them engaged with the release in their best shape, providing extremely insightful takes on an already powerful theme.

Premiered here, Sir Neil Parnell’s remix transports “Red Shift” from its sort of progressive and melodic environment to a more aggressive and frenzied terrain. If you are familiar with Tronik’s work, you know how he (and his following) likes it. Infusing heavy doses of fat arpeggiated synth layers and some immoral acidity plus a filthy bassline, Neil provided one of the most intricate versions of the release.

PREMIERE : Low Manuel - Baffo (Darlyn Vlys Remix)

Roam alumni Silicodisco returns to Roam with Spanish compatriot Xácome with three original tracks to form the Estas Loco EP. All three tracks bring a strong psychedelic post-wave sound forward, starting with Rusty Grass - a low-slung gritty yet dreamy offering. The title track Estas Loco carries the stripped-down 80s synth themes found throughout the EP. Mind Panic fits perfectly taking the vibe further with its rolling bass and ethereal soundscapes. Rounding out the EP is an excellent remix from Chinaski.

Through five high-quality original cuts, the lads introduce their talent and creativity to the Indie Dance/Dark Disco community with their solid debut on the mighty NEIN Records. Just don't think this is their first rodeo: Previously, they had been quite active on their personal Bandcamp having released some exclusivities on their own.      

Now, with their multi-genre EP, they successfully managed to combine a truckload of their main influences and deliver their vision of what dance-floor-oriented themes must embody.

We’ve all experienced this feeling of awakening after a party, with a foggy mind, a pasty mouth, and hardly any memory of what happened the night before. Sometimes you don’t even know what place you just woke up in. But one thing is for sure, you had a blast last night!
With “Penser Avec Ses Pieds”, Myrddin and Alassë put some words and melodies on this peculiar feeling of awakening. Sounding like an homage to the glorious days of Chagrin d’Amour, or some other ephemeral French new wave projects, this track takes us back to the mild days of the 80s. When you could just sing about dancing and cigarette smoking.
This one comes in 3 versions so that everyone can find his favourite one. The Italo vocal mix is carried by Alassë’s voice, almost in a spoken word way, recalling the mood of the classic 80s french hit “Chacun fait (c'qui lui plaît)”. The dark mix takes a more rock and cold wave turn but still tells the same story. And for those who don’t like vocals in their Italo, we got you covered with the instrumental mix!
