"Mostly it's fun and engaging, but don't take my first impressions for granted just yet. "Feeling" by Cali Burton sets a tone from the very beginning, but manages to swipe it here and there, especially with singing parts and some transitions that occur only a few times.
It would be no surprise if this song was strongly influenced by worldwide known artists such as Foster The People, The Killers, or Blur. But maybe it has nothing to do with any of them. Although you cannot deny the analogy, the resemblance is there.
Once in a while artists unintentionally make something sound so familiar that instantly forces us to look around and search for the answers. When mostly the main focus should be the song at hand. There's nothing wrong with the reminders, sometimes they just make us fall in love with a track.
Every piece should strike a chord inside each and every one of us, that's how it works, feeling it, is the most important thing.
While listening to the combination of sounds that Burton presented to us, without any hesitation I made some connections to certain memories, ideas, and subjects. Saying that makes it sound sad, but here we go again, don't take this the wrong way. It's more uplifting rather than gloom, the thing is - it has its own strange "mechanism of balance". It's a bliss to listen to. Cheerful and charming, but at the same time - controlling. It doesn't try to make you grumpy in any way, but it pushes these small fragments of mystery haze and obscurity, not much, but just enough to suggest, that nothing is entirely as colourful or as bright as it may seem. QX PREMIERE: Cali Burton - Feeling (Original Mix) [Slow Cycle]

After a string of well-received works published on vital outlets such as Club Mackan, HEARec, and Under The Trees, Mundo D is finally back on (the equally vital) Espacio Cielo featuring his second EP on the Spanish powerhouse: “Bladepunk” comes brimming with four peak-time beasts divided into two pure-energy-soaked originals and two ravishing remixes made with love by Mmyylo and Parissior (SXDNS206), the label boss himself.

Mmyylo, the mastermind behind the version we were solicited to premiere/review, in turn, makes his better-late-than-never debut on Espacio after also delivering a string of well-received cuts put out on NEIN, Global Underground, My Secret Agenda, Sincopat, Side Up Works, and Dust & Blood, just to mention a few.

By decreasing the BPM of the opening theme from 124 to 116, Mmyylo may have changed the mood but not the grandeur of the original. He has respectfully kept the main elements, the Italo-meets-EBM aura, the robustness, and the gait of Mundo D’s creation, but now “Outta Space” belongs to a new sphere for a proper trip in “slow motion”.

Closing the cosmic ride, the slower ‘Herbie Crashed The Party’ is a progressive burner constructed around a centre ARP2600 synth line evolving throughout the whole track and being joined by funky guitars, heady synth ornementations, and a stabby brass ensemble that opens up the door to what seems to be the ghost of an unusual guest as the party goes on, which makes us wonder if it was a good idea to let Herbie Hancock in at the party ? And again we will answer : Yes, probably.

It is a pleasure for Odd Pleasures to welcome Peaces, the project by Rizki S. Djanegara coming all the way from Jakarta, Indonesia. Captivated by the sound of new wave, disco, rock and post-punk, Peaces music explores and seamlessly blends these styles and beyond without any boundaries. presenting an ethereal mantra like EP, a sonic adventure to forgotten lands. Melodize kicks off 2025 with a bang, celebrating their 5th anniversary with their 17th release: a carefully curated compilation by label manager Beartrax.

To set the tone, Berlin-based producer Rotciv makes his return to Melodize with "Altered State": this track combines a driving, EBM-inspired bassline with a progressive build, blending trippy, atmospheric and acid-infused sounds. The bar is set high! Next, Berlin's PCL steps in with "I Want a Bad Girl", a track that fuses new wave and Italo disco. Expect a chunky bassline, shimmering 80s-style synth melodies, and irresistibly groovy rhythms. Dutch producer Laion turns up the intensity with an exquisite indie dance track that balances phat grooves, lush melodies, and beautifully layered harmonies. This one’s guaranteed to leave its mark on any dancefloor. Spanish duo Undo & Casiowaves take the mood in a different direction with their mesmerising electro-pop ballad. Melancholic yet uplifting, the track features vocals and guitars reminiscent of The Cure, creating an atmospheric lullaby that invites you to close your eyes and drift away. Crossing the channel, French producer Back From The Wave brings us "Saturated Love", evoking the early sounds of Scratch Massive and The Hacker. It’s a dark yet delicate track brimming with emotion and sonic depth. Another well-known French artist, Nhar, now based in Milan, takes over with "Subspace", a deep and captivating track driven by a strong offbeat bassline and sublime pads. Evoking Balearic sounds reminiscent of José Padilla, it’s a piece that will transport you straight to Café del Mar. Finally, the compilation wraps up with label boss Beartrax himself, who delivers "Discrepancy". Blending film score influences with classical elements, this signature track features Beartrax’s beloved violin melodies alongside atmospheric electronic harmonies, closing the release on a high note.
