London-based DJ and producer Katie Wilkinson is a bird lover, no wonder she decided to call her brand-new music project… Birds. Exploring her New Wave, 80s Goth, Techno, Psychedelic, and Experimental influences, Katie has been delivering high-quality themes and drawing more and more attention through her solid releases on influential Indie Dance labels such as Emerald & Doreen, Ombra International, Samo, Inside Out, and now on NEIN Records with “Time”, a 4-track EP divided into two dark-as-hell originals and two dangerous remixes by our dear friends Alvee (FREEDL019) and Gegen Mann (SXDNS220).

Her music brings together acid basslines with post-punk style guitars and off-kilter vocals to create something refreshingly original. The successful formula has been responsible for extremely well-crafted retro-infused pieces. In sum: Music with attitude, that’s the best definition of Birds’ exquisite sonority.

Through the remix we were solicited to review/premiere, Alvee proved he is totally familiarized and comfortable dealing with the mesmerizing Post-Punk universe. His interpretation of “Feed The Void” kept the gloomy atmosphere of the original even after having spiced & speed up things a little bit. The Mexican virtuoso went from 100 to 121 BPM, properly twisted the vibrant acid layer, and added some badass guitar riffs that paired sublimely with the amazing vocals by the star of the hour. Kudos, Jungs!

The SXDNS Takeover series, promoted by the rising & charming German platform Sexy Dinosaur From Outer Space, has it beginning with a stalwart release on the British powerhouse Nein Records. Alex Aguayo, From Beyond, Stockholm Syndrome and Tronik Youth brought their characteristic sonorities to the compilation through four stunning originals.

Mexican superstar Alex Aguayo opens the VA with “Predictable”, a Cosmic Disco-infused masterpiece full of atmospheric arpeggios and trippy synth layers. Following comes British “everybody’s darling” producer From Beyond and his acid & menacing slow-mo cut “Vortexion”. Hailing from Australia, prolific Stockholm Syndrome brings the game to a hazier and mistier level with “Acsilado” and its proper Dark Disco aura. The takeover comes to an end with a literary contribution by the label owner himself: Tronik Youth’s “Jubjub”, like Lewis Carroll’s fictional character, is dangerous and eerie with the difference of being extremely groovy.

Italian Nu Disco artist Tulioxi arrives on @NightNoiseMusic with a fantastic new three tracker.

@Tulioxi has put out more than 30 releases in his career. Releasing on an array of labels whilst also running his own in Cosmic Sumo Recordings. Furthermore, he is a developer of the MEFF Modular Synth Exhibition in Florence. As such his hardware sounds are full of texture and feeling as this new EP proves.

These three tracks are the result of a blend of the major influences that have characterised Tulioxi's musical DNA, from the seventies up to the present day. From the streets of New York, its gangs, the dirt and the funk.

Post disco and new wave fusionists Marcello Carozzi and Francesco Mingrino are @YoungerThanMe, and they bring their retro flavours to a second remix of ‘You Are Bad Luck.’ It’s a late night cruiser with silky synths and old school 80s flavours that add up to a deeply cosmic trip.

With this EP Night Noise Music prove they are leading the way when it comes to essential modern disco.

The original I’m Wild, Oh I See was part of REPVII released in 2017. Remixed by Id!r and Theus Mago. They gave the track a more dancefloor orientated feel. The two Remixers met and became friends back in 2014 in Paris. This is a swift and thunderous collaboration between the two, made in Theus studio in Mexico City. Theus Mago is the alter ego of Mexican producer Mateo González.

Powering on from their successful year of releases, the Berlin-based duo Local Suicide have teamed up with Kalipo, the Bavarian producer whose downbeat, hazy tracks are renowned for their electric melancholy vibes.

Releasing on Hold Your Ground, a sublabel of Audiolith, that credits a wide range of countries and influences to bring them the best electronic sounds from around the world, allows for the diverse talent on the EP to take centre stage.

The two tracks Dominator and Crocodile ooze new wave nostalgia and confront us with the metaphorical vocals that reminisce in our experiences as humans. Dominator's syncopated kicks and synths march toward you like a band of dancers, while the sassy vocals inspire that feeling of rebellion and seduction. Crocodile is a much grizzlier track, with the synths resonance taking full effect on your ears as the succinct vocals chant to you like they are coming from within.

Mateo González - who the duo know well from collaborating with on previous projects such as last year's track Komm Ins Loch - has taken Dominator in his stride and given us 2 remixes from his ulterior aliases. The Theus Mago remix is a harrowing acid-trip take on the track; dipping its metaphorical toe into the dark and mysterious pool of techno that he approaches his remix's with. Keeping the vocals isolated and minimal, the track glitches into a world of its own interpreting and digesting its own melody and rhythm. Bufi's remix hits us with housey and disco claps and cowbells, bringing us into a bohemium jungle, full of exotic but intriguing ingredients that overcome all the senses.

The final remix on the EP is Saint Petersburg's Radial Gaze's take on Crocodile. The track, in a major key, incorporates laser synths that shoot out in every direction, while the manipulated voice that lures you into the climax of the track is met with ringing percussion; keeping those same grizzly kicks from the original track

A superb compilation of electronic and new wave sounds, intended to tempt each listener whatever their musical pleasures. The nostalgia-inducing project is set to be released on the 7th of February 2020, on Hold Your Ground

We present the second volume of remixes: Patitos, where to test the album, 14 members pose 15 remixes of the original Patitos, which is a turning point in the corpus of the LP, and they do it by expanding their sound to its limits. Artists such as Alejandro Paz, Diaztech, Double Meaning, Fausto, Gerver, Hino, Lil Zoid, Mijo, Mverto Futura, Nico Raibak, Monefield, Shubostar, Spettro, who have contributed a strong influence to the label and vice versa, now deploy their artillery In the best way they know. A demonstration of elegance and common work around a track that marks a deep mark in the entire album, but also, of the trajectory of Ali X x Ximena. Despite the challenges and weirdness of the year, boundary-blazing bandoleros Duro continue to shoot through 2020, all-pistols-blazing. Releases have fired from all corners but one of the strongest themes has been the ‘Muy Duro’ volumes. The Mexican label’s flagship V/A series, each EP digs deep into the dark disco psyche, celebrating the label’s widest sonic outposts and reference points with friends and shared spirits from across the world, old and new. Marking a year of the series, with tracks from Israel to Istanbul, ‘Muy Duro Volume 5’ is certainly no exception.

Veteran cosmic groover Tim Paris makes his long-awaited debut with the slouching funk and broken drum swagger of ‘Better Slightly Unchanged’ before two more collaborations join the party with their Duro debuts, all hailing from Israel; Middle Sky Boom and AckerMan whisk us through the stars on ‘Temp Goes High’ while Rina X Benji pay homage to mind alteration on the electroid bumps and asteroid grinds of ‘Koshmaro’.

Professional belly dancers and long-time friends of Duro Hanzo & Yaman follow with ‘Hokus Pokus’. A springy, playful slab of house music laced with pitched bells and a riser that teases and teases, there’s a late 90s/early 200s mischief to this that, like the label itself, just won’t quit. The final word comes from the label bossman Theus Mago and French brother-in-arms Id!r… And that word is techno. Deep bleeps and endless pulsations, ‘Soft Light’ is an epic moment of pure late night hedonism that sits somewhere between Bobby Peru and Plastikman. Blazing boundaries and still fully loaded, the Duro bandoleros keep on shooting.
