Two hot remixes of O.N.O. electro-pop smash ‘Gran Music’? Yes please.

Running Back artist Enzo Elia does away with the light touches of the original in favour of something moodier and more atmospheric. Rugged electro dissonance abounds in the bass synth, which chugs away menacingly beneath light snares and driving hi-hat and ride patterns. The breathy vocals take on a different character in this darker context, creating a trippy feel with their hazy tones. Sustained pads build the mood towards the break as the bass synth unfurls its gnarly teeth. Rasping textures and incessant percussive hits fire up the breakdown, leading to crescendo of bleeping arpeggios that hark back to progressive house in its heyday. Throw in some tense stabs and intense, distorted pulses and you’ve got yourself an all-encompassing riot of sound.

Man-of-the-moment Captain Mustache lays his Parisian touch down on the second mix, opting for throbbing analog bass thrusts and ticking old skool percussion, before unleashing a fizzing lead arpeggio and breakbeat pattern that gives the track an entirely new dimension. Old skool electro with modern pop sensibility, it’s a killer rework that’s sensitive to the charms of the original while adding an element of beefiness to the proceedings.

Support for French duo O.N.O. has come from the likes of Chloe, Jennifer Cardini, Terr and Lauren Laverne from BBC 6 Music as well as fashion publication Numero Mag. They’ve been enjoying their own residency in Paris, and have plenty more tasty music waiting in the wings.

‘Space Phantasy’ is a journey to atone for demons to become the best version of yourself, even if everything around you is crumbling at your feet. It wasn't originally intended as a dancefloor song. I have tried to be as organic and minimalistic as possible in its production.

‘This Is The Time’ was the beginning of a change in both my sound and my life. I was listening to a lot of acid & Chicago, house, and in the end, the idea was to bring those influences and that classic sound to the present in a low bpm track, but with a very particular dancefloor pressure. With this track, I wanted to remind myself that it's always a good time to start from scratch and abandon a sad self, which only subtracts from your potential.

TAU label heads Adana Twins brings the tempo up a notch with a primed late-night, sweaty phat remix, huge hoover bass tones interject racing percussion, and main vocals samples for a futuristic blend of driving sonics. The duo shows off a distinct ability for carving in breaks into their tracks. Keeping things Techno-ish and consistent while adding touches of their breadth of influences. 

Life & Death regulars Marvin & Guy gives the reworking a hazy and trippy desert, bringing a dreamlike feel while keeping things dancefloor-friendly.
The remix begins in the same spirit and captures the blissful allusions of its name Space Phantasy, but its initial gentility belies the deep intensity to come. Floating pads glow with celestial ambiance, melodies, topped with a vocoded vocal hook.

Musica Cavernicola’s 14th reference has Camilo Sanjuan (@@camilo-sanju-n) as the protagonist. The Canarian DJ and producer settled in Valencia has created two original songs that are pure energy. Cabeza de Vaca opens the release with its powerful arpeggios and a well-marked groove. A track that invites madness. This has been the track chosen by the Mexican resident in the USA Rigopolar (@@rigopolar) to makes his particular reinterpretation in the form of a remix. Quality and class in abundance, where true progressions mark a sound identity. A track to close your eyes and let yourself go. The EP closes with the second original, called Didac, an emotional tribute to a very special person for Camilo, that maintains an intense and serious groove, accompanied by mysterious touches of synth that surround the dance floor. A new release of the Madrid label that encourages us to turn up the volume and dance without prejudice, like a caveman.

 Berlin’s Georg Levin has been an integral part of the scene. A producer, singer and songwriter who's had a significant impact that reached far beyond his local musical landscape. Born in Hamburg, he came up playing sax and keys in local bands, and nurtured ambitions to produce and to put pen to music paper. After a stint at Goldsmiths in London, Georg went on to work for MTV, and various other film production companies. It was when Georg met Dixon, that started the beginning of a long-term partnership, Steffen Berkhahn co-producing his first release ‘When I’m With You’, and then later the cult house classic ‘I Got Somebody New’ in 2002. Levin has collaborated and remixed for Masters at Work,  Jazzanova, Ame, Robert Owens, Basement Jaxx, and Peter Kruder a la Kruder & Dorfmeister.  He has released on Strictly Rhythm, MAW, Sonar Kollektiv, Sony Music, and together with DJ Dixon under their production duo moniker Wahoo, on BBE.  Levin spent a few years focusing on his Playdis TV which he founded in 2011, an award-winning music company that works at the intersections of sound and visions,  with a string of clients that will make car buffs melt.  Mercedes, BMW, dream on...  In 2020 Levin bounced back onto the scene with his brand of blue-eyed, future soulful vibes, destined for Adriatic boat parties
 
The hauntingly beautiful ‘It Was Fun for A While’ continues with the brief, referencing the hazy, honeyed 80s, a time where RnB, Disco and New Wave had a brief fling, but instead of looking back completely, the music and lyrics play with a emotionally abstract nostalgia. The track is bolstered by a totally infectious groove, elegantly crafted and mixed down with a precision touch. Georg Levin’s warm and atmospheric vocal captures the nostalgic moment and feelings of golden and bygone halcyon days. With a killer remix squad onboard, first up Amberoom, comprised of Manuel Tur, Ramin Nouyan, and Adrian Hoffman, who delicately refresh the vibe with their more stripped down rejig.  DJ and producer Tim Paris, you’ll know from his collaborative work with Ivan Smagghe, lays down some shimmering magic on the OG, while Mule Musiq’s and Minilogues, Eitan Reiter takes the the track to a much deeper and darker room. Festivals of summer 2022 beware. This is the track that will be scored in your head and your ears well after the festival fun has ended.

Three years after Reno Wurzbacher’s entry into the series, Cook Strummer now offers up his own
Berlin Gets Physical, a collection of all-new and exclusive tracks.
This collection will come digitally but also as two different vinyl versions - one will be available publicly, the
other is a special edition produced together with the Belgian gallery, Mazel Galerie. The cover art for it was
designed by Lyon-based street artist, Brusk and the original will be auctioned by the same gallery in Brussels.
Berlin-based, Belgium-born Strummer has been a Get Physical associate for several years. He has dropped
various singles including the standout 'Rising' which also featured on the Words Don't Come Easy series, and
always crafts the perfect mix of rhythm and melody with plenty of hints of his homeland's famous cold wave
sound. He often uses his own voice, drum machines, synths and guitars in his music, and since his debut
album in 2018 on LOK Recordings, he has had high profile support from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Adam
Port and Ame. This summer, he dropped 'Atmosphere' on Obsolet Records which proved another successful
outing and now Berlin Gets Physical finds him digging deep into the famous city's freshest and most essential
house sounds across 15 well-sequenced tracks.
His own new offering 'For Berlin' kicks off with a dark and edgy vibe, gothic vocals and tense drums. Glitchy
hits and blurting synths add to the prickly atmosphere and immediately lock you in while Los Cabra & Manuel
Sahagun's 'Italian Groove' then takes off on waves of serrated dark disco synths and Freudenthal feat.
Nowhere People continue that macho disco vibe with the rugged chug and cosmic rays of 'Cipher.'
The twinkling 'Bad Karma' by Marvin Jam & Le Mythe then allows you to catch your breath with a slower,
more spacious dub disco sound and the twanging bass riffs and exotic effects of Daniel Jaeger & Valenti's
'Quarantine Cowboys' rebuilds the atmosphere with some innovative house blues. The mid-section brings
brain-frying synth work on 'Out Of The Blue', bubbling dub house and disco courtesy of dramasquad's
sprawling 'ziggy' and percussive deep house looseness from 'Abayomi.'
After KEENE's rubbery and rolling Afro sounds comes more cosmic house richness from Dan Buri and Max
Joni & MUKKIMIAU, the driving tech of Red Pig Flower & Lulla and heady sounds of Mike Book. There is a
raw house heaviness to FreedomB's 'State of Shock' and things shut down with Electronic Elephant's tightly
coiled minimal drum funk on 'Ask Yourself'.
This on point collection is an authentic snapshot of the contemporary underground sound of the Berlin.

One of Stockholm’s finest exports, Elfenberg, arrive at Bordello with four slices of synthesizer goodness. The duo open with “Forever Alone”. A cruising arpeggiator steers its way through glistening snares, rolling kicks and classic italo vocals. Night falls in the jungle “Conga Coronation”. The treetops bristle with birdsong, thickets of bongos, toms and rain sticks lead a path to dawning melodies. A wonderfully textured percussive piece, the track is intricately carved and demonstrates the diversity and depth of Elfenberg. The disco dipped futurism of “Sphere Of Missing Out” follows. Echoes of “Conga Coronation” rhythms are countered by beaming synth bars and vocoder lyrics with the Swedish pair pushing for the floor. “Cosmic Tribune” is the curtain close. Astral chords, spiralling key shifts and incising drums coalesce in this space inspired finale. A truly stunning debut from this talented partnership.

Life And Death’s next album project finds label boss DJ Tennis work with Israeli duo Red Axes to express themselves with total freedom and explore the similarities and differences between their respective sounds. Entitled Redrago and due for release as a 2 x 12” on October 11th, the adventurous and subversive full length is preceded by one two track single release and will will also be taken on the road for a series of unique live shows. 

DJ Tennis and the Red Axes duo were first introduced to each other by The Pachanga Boys at a festival in Corsica. “Their faces, their expressions and their attitude—gentle, smart, loving and funny—impressed me at first sight“ remembers Tennis. That was many years ago, and since then they have deepened their personal and musical connections, but “always by chance” says Tennis.  Around a year ago, they were having a discussions and decided they should attempt to combine their “love of psy and mediterranean influences” and scheduled a week of recording sessions together. 

After making at 9am and having a proper Israeli breakfast, the artists went to a studio on top of a decadent old shopping mall in the Centre of Tel Aviv. Each of them then set up in one corner of the studio with their own instrument (including Tennis’s Pearl Syncussion, a small modular setup, a Juno and bunch of guitar pedals, while Niv and Dori “used their usual weird cheap instruments including bass and guitars”) and they began playing, experimenting and jamming, recording everything they did then swapping stations and repeating the process. “It was a friendly and loving experience” say Red Axes, who add that they then took all the recordings into various editing sessions and finalised the adventurous, multi-genre exploration that is Redrago. 

“The aim was to find a kind of Italian-Israeli connection in our musical approach, “ explain Red Axes. “So the album journeys from psychedelic Italo disco to Israeli trance rock with a lot of rave elements. We call it falafel disco mixed with a 1/4 of spaghetti sauce.”

The album opens with the freaky synths and punchy drums of ‘Rave ’N Roll’, which has layers of exotic instrumentation and beguiling sound design. ‘Redrago’ is a Balearic track with expansive pads and sun kissed melodies washing over you like breaking waves, while ‘Il Veliero’ is a complexly woven tapestry of intoxicating leads and drunken tabla drum sounds with a psyched-out vibe. 

The soft rock licks and conversational synths of ‘The Kohlrabi Session’ make for a chugging disco groover while ‘Plastelina’ is a deep and late night cosmic exploration that continues through the star gazing ambiance and long legged drums of ‘Shalom Alanation.’ Acid squiggles and tropical vocals make ‘Ventilo’ another fantastically fresh track while ‘Phantom Rag’ closes out with a flurry of wild synth patterns, techno drums and intergalactic feels that round things out in intense fashion. 

This is a freeform album that knows no musical boundaries and will appeal to lovers of everything from kosmische to ambient, techno to Balearic.
