Sangatte is a song that was created out of the notes Minnie wrote in her diary during her time volunteering with Care4Calais in the Refugee Camp in Summer 2016. 

The song is so rooted in her experiences of her time there that it made sense to work in partnership with Care4Calais to make Sangatte a charity single with proceeds going to support the ongoing work of clothing, feeding and providing support to refugees. 
The song is a reflective look on our position in one of the most challenging humanitarian issues of our time “The people who are made here in mud and in stone, are equal to me until I choose to go home” it is also a call to arms to encourage others to be the change they wish to see “Lend them your shoes, give them your hearts, pack the things you don’t need in the back of your car” 

Produced by Lauren Deakin-Davies at The Den Studio it is an understated, guitar- led modern folk dittie that Minnie hopes will capture your heart enough that you will download the track and she can raise some money for a charity that does great work to make a real difference in a challenging, changing and unknown situation.

God’s Footballer, released on Friday 29th November, is Minnie’s First single from her forthcoming 2020 Release “You’re not singing anymore” 

This first single is a taster of what people can expect of Minnie’s new record which sees her mix her passion for folk music with football. Minnie asks the questions “where else do people all sing on mass together? Other than at worship or a folk club? ...The football ground that is where.


 Minnie’s new record is both a folk record and a look at what it means to be a football supporter and the social movement, history and politics behind the songs they sing on the terraces. 

Her previous albums gained rave critical reviews and plays on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 music. 
She has spent the last 5+ years touring her music all over the world and is excited to take this album across the UK in early 2020 with a string of tour dates already booked. 

The song was originally written by Billy Bragg and is thought to be about Wolve’s footballer Peter Knowles who gave up the professional game to pursue his new found faith in God.

Recorded and Produced by Nick Harris of Spare Room Recordings (who also worked on Minnie’s album Floundering) 

It features renowned folk artist Lukas Drinkwater on Double Bass
and the song is interspersed with memories from John Reed, Robert Rhead and Aly Bart who all share what football means to them and talk about experiences on the terraces.

Minnie Birch is a folk pop artist from Hertfordshire UK. She was BBC Radio 1s introducing artist of the week, Buzzfeed's "one to watch" and received awards and critical acclaim in national press for her original compositions on life, love, loss and fairytale. 

She released a Sunday Times Top 100 record of the year with a unique album based on songs heard on the football terraces.  Minnie has toured extensively across the UK, Europe and across Nashville USA. 

An intriguing and unusual artist, Minnie was forced to take a career break when she was diagnosed with a rare cancer, a diagnosis which turned her world on its head and also effected the mobility in her right harm. Minnie struggled through extensive physio to get back to playing her piano and guitar. 

Her new songs are a testament to the hope and the love you can find in your darkest hours. She is looking forward to sharing them with you. Prepare to have your heart put in a soft spin, wrung out, hung out to dry and handed back to you ready to wear to the party again.
