To get you in the mood for the upcoming Soundwave club night on 20 January 2023, this mix showcases some of my favourite tunes, both old and new, alongside some of the freshest beats from the Soundwave EP and forthcoming releases on Architecture Recordings.

Soundwave.dance is proud to present a brand new Drum & Bass event featuring some of the scene’s finest DJs and producers. Recapturing the vibes from the early days of rave culture, Soundwave is the newest and freshest outlet for the most cutting edge Drum & Bass sound.
You are invited to join us and experience the scene at its most underground. The night will focus on artists from Architecture Recordings and Cylon Recordings, showcasing subsonic frequencies and dub culture. For the connoisseurs of the music, this night is how it should be done.

Lenni is a co-founder of Eclectic Selectas, a collective dedicated to creating inclusive, music-driven spaces that foster community, connection, and creativity. She is also an active member of CBR Bass Babes, supporting and uplifting women and gender-diverse artists within the local music scene.

With every set, Lenni brings a sense of curiosity, presence, and heart - holding space for meaningful experiences through rhythm and sound.

DJ Goanna has spent the last decade building community through music, connection, and culture on dancefloors across the country. Born on Wiradjuri country and now based between Wadawurrung and Awabakal lands, he's the heartbeat behind SHED: - an ever-evolving space for sound and gathering, with parties spanning from Eora to Naarm.

As founder and resident of SHED: Goanna's played and hosted in a range of underground settings including Church of Techno, Bizarro, Twisted Audio, Sleeper Cell, Miscellania, and Club 77. He's also taken his sound to open-air settings at Dragon Dreaming, Subsonic, Freerange Gathering and Realm Riparia, and featured on radio shows for FBi and Koori Radio.

Goanna's sets move between techy rollers, deep dubstep, leftfield oddities, psytrance, techno and drum and bass - always with an ear for storytelling and space. He's supported the likes of Strategy, Halogenix, DJ Hybrid, Boris, Goth Trad, Plastician, Nikki Nair, Sister Zo, Pariah, and Matrixxman, with each set delivered as a conversation between the sound system and the dancefloor.

Somewhere beyond the last rapids of the northern rivers, the goose-guides still cast light between worlds. On his new DEEPNAS release Geese, Malinoviy John turns that ancient flight into a trembling, bottom-heavy bassline.

A half-erased folk chant—sung in a vanishing Komi-Permyak dialect—rises through the mist of sub-frequencies. Sourced from a dusty field recording, stretched until every grain shows, the vocal splinters into syncopations like a wedge of geese cleaving the clouds. Each broken syllable dissolves inside a massive low end, making the air quiver like the hide of an old shamanic drum.

Threading above the abyss is the wooden umra flute: its icy whistle slashes the mix, flaring over metallic breaks the way an aurora flares above the dark tundra. Meanwhile the bass dives so deep it feels bottomless, dragging the echo of a primordial ocean—the one from which, legend says, the first birds surfaced with a single grain of earth on their beaks.

Geese is no mere collection of tracks. It’s a migration cycle where clubland’s undercurrent meets an archaic cosmos. Deep DnB becomes the tongue of ancient spirits, and every hi-hat spark recalls the wing-beat that once lifted a new world out of the void.

Step into the flight: let the bass steer you through the night, and trust the old northern song to point the way beyond the horizon.
