I spoke with Ben Chaney over the phone on June 4, 2007, two days after his mother Fannie Lee Chaney was buried in Meridian, MS, next to her eldest son, slain civil rights worker James Chaney. Fannie Lee Chaney passed away on May 22, 2007. I asked Ben how it felt knowing that she had died with most of the perpetrators never having been charged with murder.
