Inspired by the mythology of Southern Kyushu and Sakurajima, an active volcano in Kagoshima that is loved by volcano researchers around the world as a material for their research, Isami created this EP.

In the next instalment of Futurepast mix series we welcome the visionary Kuba '97. Embark on a transcendent voyage through downtempo realms where time slows and melodies whisper from another dimension. It begins with a gentle invitation as ethereal synth pads and distant chimes beckon the listener to step into the unknown. With each beat, the rhythm leads us deeper into the heart of the experience, where tribal echoes and pulsating bass lines interact with the energy of the cosmos.

As the journey unfolds, psychedelic vibes curl like vines in a lush jungle, evoking visions of ancient rituals and sacred ceremonies. Moments of introspection give way to bursts of euphoria, taking us to new heights of rapture. The music swells and plunges and we are swept away on waves of sound, surrendering to the infinite possibilities of the universe.

As the final notes fade into silence, we are left with a sense of peace and renewal, knowing that we are in the presence of something truly magical. The Kuba '97 mix feels like a portal to another dimension, a glimpse into the boundless depths of the human soul.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath & allow your mind to bring you on a journey to a far away land. When your eyes open, you appear inside of a lush yet strangely digital landscape, billions of years into the past where the planet is overflowing with a myriad of the most unusual plants & animals. You find yourself comforted by the natural serenity of it all, the lack of human influence on the world around you. Submerged in the depths of cool, dense, mysterious jungles, interrupted only by the occasional river snaking through the trees. You trek across the most vivid of green mountains & through deep valleys that are peppered with crystal clear blue waters from the melted glaciers of a past ice age. It’s just the slightest bit familiar yet there is not a human in sight. A delicate shimmering coats the surface of everything you see. It’s as if you are in a dreamlike, artificial state of consciousness. This is the world of Tensen Park’s ‘Jurassimo’.

The Amsterdam-based producer takes you on an introspective ride through 4 dubby, ambient & IDM-adjacent tracks, each with a cool wash of crispy effervescence & crystalline ear candy. The music is full of so much beautiful detail which sounds as if it was performed in an improvisational manner. There is a meticulousness & attention to detail that is heard throughout yet everything somehow sounds unpretentious & flows naturally. The EP closes with a 5th track which is a wonderfully crunchy & upbeat rework from friend & occasional collaborator lmnop.

FUNKY GONG
FUNKY GONG, also known as MINORU TSUNODA, is a music producer and DJ/guitarist. Started playing classical guitar at the age of 12, he started composing music during junior high school. After graduating from high school, he pursued studies in Acoustic Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology. During his studies, he simultaneously engaged in band activities heavily influenced by alternative rock and funk, while learning the fundamental knowledge of sound engineering.

After graduation, while working as a sound engineer at live houses, he also started band activities. In 1998, he joined TSUYOSHI SUZUKI's unit "JOUJOUKA," which blended techno-trance with rock, and made a major debut from Toshiba EMI. He collaborated with various artists such as Tadanobu Asano, Sayoko Yamaguchi, YOUTH, Toshio Nakanishi, Poppy Kikuchi, Sandy, THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS, SUGIZO, SYSTEM7, among others.

Simultaneously, under the artist name "FUNKY GONG," he began producing original techno-trance tracks as a DJ using DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). He released six albums as JOUJOUKA and three albums as FUNKY GONG. He performed five times in total at the FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL and conducted performances in 13 countries including NYC and London. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he executed a challenging idea by releasing 100 original tracks focusing on the theme of "Chill Out" on the music distribution site "Bandcamp" within four months. This initiative aimed at improving his musical skills further, engaging with fans, and expanding his fan base.

Continuing beyond his role as a DJ/artist, FUNKY GONG remains actively engaged in activities such as releasing original tracks, Remix Work, and establishing the online DTM school "FUZZ MUSIC SCHOOL." For more information, you can visit their website at https://fuzzmusicschool.com/
