Any artist is welcome to send us a track via freshonthenet.co.uk anytime between Monday lunchtime and Thursday morning (or when we receive 200 submissions, whichever is sooner) - and all our moderators, including Tom Robinson, will listen to every track. If a track you submitted does not appear in this list, it’s probably because another of your tracks appeared in our Fresh Faves or on the BBC Music Introducing Mixtape during the last three months — we ask that artists featured on either wait three months before resubmitting to give others a chance. We also don’t accept short previews or SoundCloud GO tracks that can only be heard as 30 second previews, and tracks made private after submission, which cannot be included in playlists. You will be able to resubmit the track in future. Tracks that have been previously submitted and tracks from banned artists will also be removed.

Minus Alive are back on the scene with a new single, a choir of storytellers and a rallying cry of hope. Having taken some time away after the successful release of their debut EP Maybe This All Just Ends and a triumphant national tour, the Southampton 3 piece have emerged from a year of intense Zoom-based songwriting with their new single Amen To The Storytellers.     

The band were all affected in different ways by the pandemic, from losing jobs and income to struggles of mental wellbeing. Their main source of emotional support were the nightly remote songwriting sessions with producer Chris Lyndon, where over the course of 2020 they channelled their fears, frustrations and pent-up energy into a series of new tracks that are scheduled for release throughout 2021. 

Amen To The Storytellers is a message of solidarity for the creative community and is a testament of what can be achieved in the face of adversity. Working remotely, each band member recorded their parts from home, with fellow creatives coming together to form the accompanying “Storytellers” virtual choir. Everyone involved filmed themselves recording their parts on their phones, forming the basis for the music video.

Amen To The Storytellers is Minus Alive’s anthemic take on how 2020 affected the creatives of the world, and how the only way to move forward from this is together.

Ruth wrote Way the Wind Blows when she was 12 years old. The lyrics reflect on missing her dad whilst growing up as he worked as a touring musician. Now 23, she has reimagined the song with her band, featuring guitars from James Cooke, recorded by Mark Lewis at Germanium Studios in Manchester.
