Three States has been nominated for a 2013 WAM Song Of The Year Award.


Minute 36 will be launching 'The Secret EP' at The PICA Bar on Saturday October 12, with support from Simone and Girlfunkle, The Polly Medlen Band and Mossy Fogg. Free entry, 8pm.

Kris Nelson is taking his dark/jazz infused rock project 'Minute 36' back on the road to launch his third studio release 'The Secret EP'. Although recording for the EP started back in late 2011, tracking was put on hold due to the opportunity to tour his project Internationally to Toronto for the Canadian Music Week. Since then Nelson attended the 'JB Seed' program in The Blue Mountains and also toured the eastern states and WA numerous times. In a small break in tours Nelson finally found the time to finish the tracking for 'The Secret EP' in June this year.

The title track was recorded by Rob Agostini at Soundbaker and the other four tracks as well as the mixing and mastering were done by Alan Smith at Bergerk. The trademark Minute 36 sound remains intact, although big guitars, heavier drums as well as piano and organ have made their way into the mix and add even more dynamic to the already dramatic arrangements. The EP has already received two 'WAM Song of the Year' nominations in both the 'Rock' and 'Regional' categories for 2013 and will be available for free download via the Minute 36 facebook page.

The Secret is the latest single from WA act Minute 36. this is our first release since our debut album late last year. To promote its release we have produced a film clip and will be touring extensively  with dates in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and WA.

An Argument Between The Taste And The Feeling is the debut album release from Western Australian act Minute 36.

"Don’t you just hate when you can’t put your finger on something? Like when you hear a band for the first time and you just can’t figure out who they remind you of. They’re without a doubt unusual, yet somewhat similar to an act you’ve heard before. Needless to say minute 36’s dark and twisty debut album “An argument between the taste and the feeling” can be similarly puzzling." 

Somewhere in-between the eerie vibe and vocals of bright eyes; and the descriptive song titles of brand new is a starting point perhaps from where Minute 36 have made their mark. Leaving little to the imagination, lyrics such as “if all this drinking is so bad for my health, yeah well so is sleeping around, and that doesn’t seem, doesn’t really seem to stop you now, does it princess?”, matched with the albums indie-goth-rock spin, not too mention some jazz in there too, certainly makes for an interesting listen to say the very least. And if you close your eyes whilst listening to the 12-tracker, you might find yourself imagining some kind of spooky horror film. But enough with all this scary riff raff because there are some real finds in this release. To name a few: the toe tapping album opener “Piano Face”, the rhythmic spontaneity of “This next scotch is for you” and the melodically driven “The accuracy of guilt”. 

Minute 36 have certainly pushed some boundaries to create a memorable debut with an all out interesting style. Where to from here?
