Commissioned in 1963 by the French parliament for Marcel Mule's saxophone quartet, Alfred Desenclos' 'Quatuor' has very quickly earned a place in the standard repertoire. After a short introduction, this movement takes on characteristics of French Impressionism and American Jazz in an exciting finale to the work.

This is the first movement of David Maslanka's Recitation Book; it is entitled "Broken Heart: Meditation on the chorale melody Der du bist drei in einigkeit (You who are three in one)." The piece was commissioned in 2004 by the Masato Kumoi Saxophone Quartet and has quickly earned its place among the standard repertoire.

Mirasol Quartet of Lubbock, Texas draws their name and musical inspiration from the intensity of the West Texas sun. Formed in the fall of 2013 at Texas Tech University, the quartet consists of doctoral student James Barger (Carrollton, TX), master's student Ben Still (Raleigh, NC), and undergraduates Andrew Reinhart (Lewisville, TX) and Ben Donnell (Levelland, TX).

Recent accomplishments: national finalists and 3rd place award at the Music Teachers National Association's "Chamber Winds" Competition in Chicago, IL (March 2014); finalists in the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Quartet Competition at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (March 2014); quarterfinalists in the Fischoff National Chamber Music (Wind) Competition (live rounds to be held at The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN in May 2014); performance at the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) conference in San Antonio, TX (February 2014).
