My latest single is a baile funk/funk carioca/samba infused track and one that's inspired by the Brazilian dance form referred to as 'Passinho' or "little step". Passinho originated in the favelas of Rio in the early 2000s and over the past 2 decades has amassed global recognition and attention. It is an art form that has contributed to decreasing tensions across rivaling neighborhoods, creating community and a sense of belonging amongst the youth and has even helped to break down gender roles in the dance community as well as challenge harmful stereotypes. 

I was first introduced to Passinho via a documentary called "Brazil's Passinho Dancers of Queimados" which follows a dance group called the OS Fabullosos. I was fortunate enough to work with two talented members of this group and they put together a choreographed dance for my single. 

I hope that the audience of this song, no matter how big or small draws even more attention to this beautiful art form, to the incredibly talented dancers, and to the Brazilian culture. Much love, and hope you enjoy. - Pherris

Jabair is DJ and Producer based out of Philadelphia. He burst onto Philly’s music scene in early 2014 receiving support from the global selector and Mad Decent label head Diplo on BBC 1 Xtra, for his various club friendly remixes. Since then, his sound has encompassed everything from club music, hip- hop, house, disco, dancehall and R&B. Since, 2014 Jabair has held down residencies at some of Phildelphia’s top spots as well as being an in demand support for touring acts. As a producer he’s received acclaim from publications and labels likeFader, Team Supreme, and most recently was named one of Massappeal’s “Undiscovered Talents of Soundcloud”. Currently, Jabair is holding down a monthly residency at Stratus one of Philadelphia’s premier rooftop clubs on the roof of the Hotel Monaco(Kimpton). As well as running a monthly producer showcase at Philly’s home for underground dance music; the Warehouse on Watts.
